Away fans / tourists in home sections

UEFA won’t.

City will remind UEFA they didn’t back the fans in public about the coach park in Istanbul after the match.

City didnt back the fans in public (or private as far as I know) about the bastard coach park in Istanbul.

I, and young Gaz, have been in every cup scheme since they became available, we certainly wont be in the champions league (should we qualify) scheme next year, its become an absolute chore attending these games and I never thought it would get to this point but here we are.

Cheers for doing this, Alex. Much appreciated.

A few typos in there - ‘route’ & branch, ‘know’ and ‘undoubtadly’ - genuinely not having a dig at all but it might be good to let a second pair of eyes proof read your messages before they’re sent to the club.

Sounds like it’s an uphill struggle to get a meaningful response out of them at the best of times. I hope Danny surprises us all and responds with something substantial.

Good luck with it mate.

I agree, it’s going to get worse. I get the impression the entire expansion is being built for tourists and neutrals. The hotel/corporate sections aren’t being created for our local fans

Agree I know I'm in the minority as a City fan due to living right in the bottom right hand corner of England.
29quid we use to pay for a family room at the Premier inn in Stockport area. Now well over 100quid. The last evening game we did we drove to just outside Birmingham as it was alot cheaper than Manchester to stay over still was gone 1am before we got there.
We would need to do this 3 times to qualify for the knock out stages. We simply can't do that, so we will never attend another cl game.
I sit at home wishing I could afford to go and watch my team. Instead I watch the game at looking at all the half n half scarfs, seeing videos of social media about away fans sitting where I wish I could.
City can't control the Premier Inn prices lol.
To get pl tickets you have to be online for a couple of hours to get a single seats. Can't get two seats together.

I use to love telling the plastic that I go to around 10 matches a season, I'm a proper fan. Now I'm like them don't go to matches because of this I don't feel as emotionally attached to my home town team.

Being part of the City family fan base has now stopped for me but not on my terms. It's on City's terms and I don't like that. I miss seeing my lad and my mates at least once a month going to a game. We have lost that social side that City keep us together. Kent is a big place and we all live miles from each other so going to the pub isn't on. I'm angry that this part of my life has come to an end.
For 50 years of going to matches I always hoped I would stop when I physically couldnt go anymore. I never dreamt that it would be City 'stopping' me.

Getting tickets this season has been a fucking joke. Hours my lad spends online in the queue than we find we can only get single seats all around the Etihad. Than there's the fucking price 70 fucking quid.

I miss going I miss the social side I miss the emotionally attachment I miss be surrounded by City fans.

I will treasure the memories the 3-2 v Villa was amazing. Amazing to be next to my lad, the massive hug we had after the third and the joy of the City fans around us.
Most of all I feel sorry for my lad who like me can't get tickets for his team the same team as his dad (me lol) his grandad his great grandad. Young City are going to miss out sadly.

Rant over as you were lol

It wasn't just the coach park that was the problem, if it was we might just have forgiven the club for their silence.

It's not a rant it's a statement of fact, and a shit do all around.

A lot of fans are dropping out after this season, even on BM. I am as well.

City won't be worried as they will sell our cup scheme seats to the tourists in the CL.

The Europa League and UEFA Conference League will be a different matter altogether.

The thing we have to remember is that we aren’t playing Real Madrid every week. And City v Real Madrid is up there as one of THE highlights of sporting calendar. It doesn’t matter what the sport is, whether it’s Super Bowl, a Vegas or Abu Dhabi fight, Wimbledon final, the Ashes or the Olympics - the real money on the marquee event is not made from the fans who follow week in, week out, the money is made from capturing the attention and excitement of the wider public - the casual fan, the curious neutral, the celebrity, the high roller, and yes, the excited tourist. If City v RM was a match only die-hards were bothered about then we really would have problems. On top of that it’s the way Manchester works as an event city. We don’t have fantastic weather but we do have a rolling calendar of spectacles and events that drive the local economy, and City v RM is part of that, along with all the gigs etc. The flipside to that is that the club has to be aware that when the likes of the RM fixture is done and we’ve been beaten, it’s the loyal and local fans who will still be there, so affordability and accessibility are key to ensuring you have your next 50 years of lifelong matchgoing support.

I interpreted it to be no more, ever, @Alex - City Matters was that the case?
I was told that the intention was just Flexi Gold moving forward, but I believe they’ve since backtracked on that slightly and ‘haven’t decided.’

I actually had someone check it! That said, I spotted them straight after I’d shared it. Annoying, as I’m a stickler for this sort of thing.

The Club have agreed that Real Madrid can be the top item on the agenda for our meeting next Thursday. They said that they will share key information from their side. Clearly, that will be helpful, but as I said in my letter, I’ve heard enough platitudes about it being wrong. We need firm and transparent action, and that includes on wider (but related) items such as ticket pricing and policy.

I dropped out of CL cup scheme as away fans and tourists just spoiled it all for me and could not actually watch or enjoy a live game and Stewards were powerless it seemed.

I complained to club and they contacted me and told me it was issue with UEFA and Sponsers selling on tickets and not sold through club and so they had no control.

I advised they do have control at both gates and inside the ground. I also told them fans will be injured if it continues as numbers of away fans in home end is increasing and creates a risk.

Good stuff, hope it goes well on Thursday mate.

Give ‘em hell!

Sadly, if it does one day kick off big time due to this, UEFA will come down on the club like a ton of bricks.

Judging by the first three group games I’m not sure that will necessarily be the case.

Part of me hopes we do end up in Europa or Conference, just to highlight the issue. However, it's really not a route we should be going down, purely for financial reasons. I think winning Europa nets less prize money than the clubs that have just been eliminated from the CL. That said, I had some cracking trips away when we last played in the Europa League.

Biggest issue for the Madrid game was pricing.
If they had priced it to attract a dual.city fans, there wouldn't have been space for the tourists to attend.

I didn't go because of the price and I'm sure that's the reason many other season ticket holders didn't go.
I could easily afford to go but felt like I was being ripped off so chose not to.
I kind of knew this was coming which is why I dropped out of the scheme this year for the first time since it was introduced (before we ever even played in the champions league and had to play teams I'd never heard of on Thursday nights).

Even for Soriano, Danny, the other directors, the managers under them, and the bean counters at City, this thread has to be a sobering read and a wake up call, not they've all been sleep walking into this issue. Surely they can see where this is ultimately heading now and into the future?

Never. Especially if they don’t get CL this season. Cunts will be hiking the prices up even more because they’ve spent the last couple years congratulating themselves on how amazing they all are and how well run the club is.

Well the squad is in a shit state now, we’ve recruited poorly. The execs have all got too comfortable and think they have done things in such a great way. This season is a reality check.

They need to get people through the door and make that money up if they don’t make CL. So I’d expect it to carry on.

Can’t wait for Khaldoons end of season interview me, he can’t be sucking off everyone this year can he.
