Aymeric Laporte 2018 performances

Our 3 main centre backs are just class. They can all break the press either through passing or ball carrying. Just monsters the lot of them.

Dreamy. Gonna have to choose between him and Sané for my man crush.

Loved how quick he got the ball out of his feet and either stepped into the space or sprayed a quick pass out to the wing. He's so aggressive with the ball and that's exactly what Pep wants. Stones plays nice passes, this guy plays attack setup passes. We are sometimes guilty of knocking the ball about at the back and letting defences get organised but Laporte has no interest in that, he's just an attacking centre back. Love it.

Speaking at a press conference after the match, Alan Pardew spoke glowingly of Laporte and warned his fellow league managers that City have another “asset” on their hands.

“Laporte I thought was terrific,” the West Brom boss said. “His passing from left to right was a problem for us.

“I’ve got bad news for other Premier League managers – they’ve got another asset, not just a defensive one but an offensive one too with his passing.

“Good luck to everybody else.”

He did well but I'm cautiously optimistic. Mangala looked good too his first few games. Not really tested, we'll see though as we have tougher games coming up. Wish him well for him personally and for the team, but I'm gonna remain calm.

When I saw him starting it scared the hell out of me. How much time could he have had actually training w/ the team? A couple hours? I figured there would be miscommunications that would cost City but he was on the same page as everybody else.

Looked alright didn't he. I liked when he burst forward showing a good turn of pace but then found himself in a bit of a dead end yet he still had the composure to find a pass to get himself out of trouble. Bodes well for the future.

Agreed. But you have to admit he looked class in ways defenders, even the good ones, generally don't.

He'll be great in our system. Actually, hellh improve on it. The whole left side with him and Zichencko pretty much became 'Press resistant'.

WBA decided to press Ota' and Walker instead. I mean imagine that! A team concluding after the first 20 minutes that they were better off putting pressure on the league's runnaway best RB, and the league's runnaway best CB, rather than the 2 new kids coz they were that good with the ball at their feet.

Stunning stuff!
