We don't pay the release clause, only the player can do that, so if we agreed to pay it , it would still be up to the player and he obviously wasn't sure, hence we gave him a deadline. Nothing to do with us being slow, we offered to pay his release a while ago.Just my opinion but we could have activated his release clause at any time...the longer you leave it the longer a young kid is going to start having doubts.....We signed Gundogan while he was injured, no reason to not have done the same with Laporte...he's been back running for nearly a month!...guess I'll calm down after typing this but feel we were slow, to slow in getting this deal done and its given his current club a window to get back into the race....

Wow, relax mate. He is only 22 years old. Don't forget he has a major injury, could understand if he wants to stay at his club. Not every player will want to play for city and that's okay.
