I reckon he's happy with his lot in life so far and he's hardly hitting his late twenty early thirties. There's plenty of time for him to make a big move in the future. To make it as a professional footballer in the first place takes plenty of drive and character so throwing out that accusation seems petty to say the least.

Personally I didn't have a lot invested in this transfer as I didn't know much about the player and still don't but I agree that none of us are privy to his reasons for staying or what his actual ambitions are so no need to act like spoilt kids when it doesn't go our way.

But you have literally no idea what he wants. For all you know he might have a very strong belief that one of the biggest clubs in Europe will be along in the next season or two if he carries on playing well. I've never even seen him play but if he's as good as people suggest he is and he has complete faith in his own abilities then it's sensible with respect to his long term ambitions to continue homing his skills in la liga. The way people are confidently declaring the guy to be an unambitious mummy's boy is just daft. They should probably put their own dummy back in first!

You clearly don't think City are one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Fair enough. But if people question his ambition for staying at Bilbao in his comfort zone when Pep came calling they're entitled to ask the question. Perfectly natural. All this "what a great loyal guy" is proper naive.

Hi mate.....I've had time to calm down this morning after the news!;) but got to admit, some of the rumours/comments the club leaked to the press, after the news came out just didnt help the situation.....all this "not first option" and "too expensive for a young player" reports seemed a bad move and we would haven been better off just keeping silent...we laugh at the rags for doing this and these rumoured press leaks just seemed to be a bad PR move to hide our disappointment at missing out on the player...

I agree, I respect Laporte for staying, he must really love his club to turn down an extra 3mil a year salary and dont have any issue with him staying, he made the move that was right for him! Good luck to the lad!...Txiki now just needs to move quicker than he has done in past summers, if we want the squad anywhere near being set by the time Pep arrives..

I must admit, I was more than a bit pissed off last night and immediately started flapping at the prospect of starting next season with the same defence.

I'd stop way short of admiration but I definitely respect his decision to stay. People moan about a lack of ambition but the truth is that Aguero and Silva would have won more titles playing for Real or Barca than they have with us and that was a realistic option for both players at one point. Does this mean they too lack ambition?

And then I've seen money mentioned but Laporte has just accepted a much lesser wage from Bilbao so I don't get what the argument is there. Even if it's that he's holding out for a move to Barca, so what? People want to slate him for allegedly lacking in ambition for not joining us but then slag him off for potentially waiting to join an even more successful team.

And, yeah, fully agreed about our PR on this one. Should have just kept our mouths shut like every other time.

We will be better next season with or without Laporte.

Some of our fanbase have got a right cheek having a go at a player who wants to remain at his club. Just because we come calling doesn't mean that a deal is in the bag. It's arrogance personified to think that way and even worse to have a go at a club who choose to run their club as they see fit.
As much as we like to think it, we aren't the be all and end all to the vast majority of footballers out there.

If we miss out on our first choice targets then we have to hope that the men being paid the big bucks have a plan B,C and D to fall back on. If not then we can all throw hissy fits but seeing as the transfer window hasn't even fucking opened yet I think some are going off a little premature.

Well said. I assume no blues would be thinking Sergio is a shithouse if Real come calling and he chooses to stay with us? It's just nonsense. We wanted a player, he isn't coming, it happens. He isn't the only decent defender in the world and if we can't find good alternatives with the resources we have available then there's something badly wrong.

He bottled it the little prick, never wanted him anyway, best wait and see how/ if he recovers from his injury first

Not playing for Real they wouldn't
