Anyone like that must be really good and really well scouted.God yes, could you imagine paying over the odds for a french centre half who can't get in the national team?

No it's pretty daft as Mangala is not Basque as far as I know.
How can I tell be a release clause if it is not binding to the club?So basically we're negotiating over the fee, since it's impossible for us to activate the release clause without paying an additional 45% in tax? So we're wanting to offer the amount of his release clause without actually activating it. Shakhtar have no obligation to accept that offer and want more money, naturally. We'll probably settle on a fee that is 10-15% higher than his release clause to 'save' money. So we must wait to see if it gets done before the deadline. Is that, in a nutshell, where we are at?
Yes, I think most are aware of the gray area involved with his Basque-ness, or lack thereof.Nor is Laporte. He was born in Agen, which is not in the Basque Country.
John stones is our future captain imo. He was outstanding before he got injured and I'm sure he will be in the future. Laporte won't be replacing stones I'm sure of that. If anything our centre halves will be rotated.
I think it's impossible to dislike the Mangler for the reasons you highlighted. I also don't think he is as bad as he's made out. Okay he's no Baresi, but i think the press got on his back early doors and he never really recovered. He never hides, he seems like he's a popular member of the squad and is all for the cause. Should he go in the summer I really hope it's with a suitcase full of medals.
You are right Mangala isn’t that bad but in our side he looks terrible - because we demand ball players - at less sophisticated clubs like West Brom or the Rags where he’d just have to put his head on it,put it in row Z or lump it long he’d look okay. That said he’s never worth the sort of fee we paid for him. £12 to £15m defender. I hope he gets a move , settles and becomes a valued part of a team. He’s a good professional and seems like a good lad so I wish him well - I hope being so far down our pecking order doesn’t cost him a place in France’s WC squad.
