From what I've seen he's similar in style to Stones, in terms of he's good on the ball etc. But a bit quicker, stronger, better in the air and hopefully less errors in him. I think Laporte and Otamendi will be the starting pair eventually. Stones form has been poor and it will take some time for Laporte to settle in, but in a 2 I think Laporte and Otamendi will be the preferred pairing

I personally think before John got injured he was head and shoulders above any one in the league. Since then otamendi has gone from strength to strength and really grew with the pressure on his back. I do however think right now Otamendi will be the main man but by the end of next year John and Aymeric will be the starting pair and by the time they are 28 will be the best centre back pairing in world football.

Yes, but I would reason that only someone who really dislikes Otamendi would believe that he should be dropped for Stones, Kompany or Laporte based on the performances of each of the four this season.

Nah mate, I like Nico, I just think that IF everyone was 100% fully fit and in form, hypothetical of course, then Vince, Stones and Laporte would be the best 3.

Love Vinny but regrettably I think if 100% fit is now a hypothetical situation that is unlikely to arise in a form that Pep trusts.

So Vinny (when fit obv) and Stones or Otter and Laporte in a 4.
Didn't Pep go with Puyol and another at Barca and same at Bayern?
Be interesting to see how he wants to go with the diversity he now has.

Manchester City are wasting no time in completing the purchase of Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Club with the centre-back starting his medical tests on Saturday morning.

Although Athletic gave their players two days off following Friday's draw with Eibar, Laporte was in for an hour-and-a-half workout having sat out the match.

The Frenchman also passed a blood test as part of his medical with other procedures likely to be undertaken before he flies to England on Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning.

Athletic have given their consent for their Lezama facilities to be used for these tests with 65 million euros the fee due to be paid by City for the 23-year-old.

Depending on how many of those three arrive this month, City should have a relatively quiet summer. They will look for another defender, one who is likely to be relatively cheap and fourth choice in the pecking order of centre-backs

If we look for another defender in the summer, that would surely be the end of Kompany

For me, the reason we've taken a bit of a dip (albeit still keep winning) in recent weeks (winning late etc) has been because we've had mangala next to ota. Its not so much of a defensive issue as the other team still cant get the ball. But Mangala cant pass it out so has to give it to ota. Its minimal but doing so means its one more pass that has to happen, limits the angles we can make and slows it down and gives teams more time to set up.
So yes we need 2 passers to be at our best if we play 2 at the back, but I think ota stones and laporte would all be able to offer this.
 
I am assuming Kompany will not be classed as 4th defender but because of injuries he will only make sporadic appearances next year and so effectively he will be forth defender. The JFE thread needs locking (gets on knees and puts hands together in prayer)
