In some ways this may well get our recruitment team to up their game. It's not easy signing any player at the level we require, but I do think we need to look at closing deals quicker. Hopefully we may see a deal soon of a player no-one thought about or mentioned- now that would be a tonic.

Football intelligence and general intelligence aren't the same thing....

I don't think that's immediately clear when saying that a person needs to get a brain. But I think a lot of the former is coaching... some bad defensive coaching in the past two seasons, and some inevitably good defensive coaching shortly. Hopefully a Martinez-like session will undo some bad decision-making tendencies.

Not sure it will ever make him a first team player in Pep's side, for technical reasons. But I don't have any doubt that he couldn't make him into a good defender.

Unless he signed to get s big payout for Bilbao then the facts are he's decided to stay at a mid table Spanish club rather than sign for Pep and City!

Txiki is doing a great job of selling the dream ticket....................

And not a flying fuck was given that day.

Don't know enough about him, plenty saying he is the real deal.

Always seemed overkill to me wanting him AND Stones.

At least Stones is homegrown and used to the Premier League.

Fair play to Laporte if he wants to remain loyal, regardless of a pay rise.

As far as I'm concerned, it's £40m we can spend elsewhere, hopefully on a proper left back!!

Spot on.

You're sounding like the Manure media, didn't want him anyway.

Hmmmm

Well it's a setback, and a bit galling all the ground work put in over how many months and now we have to move on to another CB,can't do anything if he changed his mind last minute shit happens we move on ..

Wonder if that does make that 65m for Aubameyang more achievable though.

Seriously? How much more can Txiki do?

The kid is willingly turning down football at the highest level, trophies, success, Pep Guardiola and double the money to stick around at Bilbao. That's it.
