Backup CM- Who would you play?

So we should play our only good enough CB as a holding midfielder? No ta. Any combination of Lescott, MDM or Nastasic is an accident waiting to happen. I'd sooner put Zaba there, and I still wouldn't do that.

When Garcia gets back we'll be alright, as we can play either him with Yaya or in a three with Milner and Yaya with him balancing it all out and allowing Yaya to play to his strengths. Untill then, I guess I'd be tempted to try a three of MDM, Milner and Yaya and see what happens, if it's not working then just be ready to make changes (which has been the real problem, against Chelsea and Norwich it was clear that the balance wasn't working but we did nothing about it)

I thought I was on the wrong site at first. Garcia was being crucified before Christmas. His thread was over 200 pages saying he was garbage.
Why has opinion of him changed???.

People got bored of making jokes, switched over to the Demichelis thread and admitted he does a limited but decent job, as he gained confidence. He actually got positionally laxer and made more tackles and everybody seemed to love it.

Milner all the way
Please no. He was garbage today.

There's no way you watched the same game that I did!
Milner was one of our best players yesterday?
He did a great job in a position he hasn't played for us before.
I've even gone and watched the game twice more just in case I'd been hallucinating previously, but no, it was the same Milner, playing his part perfectly for the main , in the same match against Norwich.
I really don't get how views can differ so much on players. Apart from maybe two or three very recent ok performances, and I mean just ok, Garcia has been piss poor and was slated into the ground on this very forum all season and now people would put him on ahead of the ultimate workhorse that is Milner? I give up

I'm sure you didn't mean for it to be, but that is one hell of a backhanded compliment.

Some people on here are absolutely clueless. Milner's passing was generally bang on today, he made tactical fouls to prevent counter attacks, linked well with Silva and created a great goalscoring opportunity for Dzeko to half-heartedly head wide. This system is prehistoric, but Milner's interpretation of his duties within it were spot on. If Fernandinho put in the same performance he'd be hailed a hero by the very people who are calling Milner out.

Absolute rubbish. Hope you're not aiming for 100+ posts.

Should have got Fernando and Mangala in January simple as, even if we did have to pay a bit extra for them

I'd personally play a 3 man midfield of Milner Yaya Demichelis

Obvious weakness in the team and hope to god he doesn't keep playing two against stronger teams.

Barcelona will absolutely maul us if we go 4-4-2 and fernandinho isn't fit
I agree
I hope we set up with 5 across midfield otherwise we will never get the ball off them of all teams.
I have a deep seated fear that the engineer may stick to 442 at a time when we don't have our best weapons available. If Dinho and Kun were fit then 442 may just work. No chance without them.

Spot on.

yep pack the midfield

milner please

for barca:

zab.....vk....demi.....clichy
..........garcia
.......yaya........milner
nasri.........................silva
............negredo

??
don't think that'll even work, though. i'd rather have pace in our counters so we can take advantage of alba's and dani alves' attacking runs and also the lack of pace in puyol and pique.

they may know jesus navas well, but can they stop him? i'd leave him high when we can. quit attacks are the best way to break down any barca defense IMO.

zab...vk...demi...clichy
........garcia
..............yaya
jesus.....silva...... nasri
.........negredo

Rather see^ silva can drop off in defense to add numbers when we need to... we're not going to beat barca through possession. especially not without dinho and aguero. we need to be well organized and lethal in our counters. gona be a tough one regardless
