Bad career moves

I think it can be really difficult to judge a live band when you've never heard them before, mind you it's not my job to be able to do it! Who were the hit you had shortly after to make amends Billy?

I had the demos and I really liked Mardy Bum and Fake Tales ... I just thought the night i saw them they were so bad it was hard to see past that. It really is hard to judge bands after one gig - the Monkeys thing was just so competitive at the time that i didn't see the point in sinking a million pounds into a signing a band who for all intents and purposes couldn't play very well. Dumb in hindsight but at the time it seemed like the right thing to do ... the other band were nowhere near as cool but had a number 1 album and single so I did ok ... (no I won't name them but there's a few on here who know so if they want to out me they're more than welcome!).

Bargain rooms are generally shit these days. That's why I rent my own place and feel the pain on the 1st of every month

Where abouts in london are you mate... and do you mind me asking what the damage is each month.. im assuming its alot?
I live in Putney as its an easy commute to work from there. I dont get much change from £700 for my half of the rent
But as room shares can cost that im not too bothered, well I am its horrifying amount but in the grand scheme its decent

I'm assuming you and a mate got a place together then... My problem is i don't have any mates to move to london with, so at the mo a flat sharing website is my only real option..

Ooh that's a cracking guess. I reckon you might be on the money there.

Indeed it is bang on the money ... oh the shame of it although I do console myself with the idea that they'd probably have signed to Domino anyway in the end ... but still to actually say "they can't play, he can't sing" ... yeah not my finest moment.
I saw Dire Straits back in 77 as support to talking heads
I walked out after a couple of songs back in to the bar proclaiming dire straits dire music

I was bang on the money

My memory of venues is poor... If that was at the Free Trade Hall Squirty, I think I may well have been in the bar with you...

Dire by name...

You shouldn't have to pay £700 as long as you're not too fussy about where you live. Many average areas with little to do aside from Fried Chicken and crap Pubs are just a bus ride away from somewhere more upmarket. South London is affordable but isn't well covered by the Underground.

Give me the number of letters again, I'll get it in one.

i feel for all you youngsters just setting out. when i read what rent you are having to cough up its criminal. i'm glad i'm old.

I was paying £730 pcm last year. Getting really sick of lining Landlord's pockets!

Looking to move back to Manchester soon, even if it means staying with the folks. That's how it is for this generation.

i'm extremely lucky.

i only have to pay £200 a month rent but my energy bills are huge because of the size of the place.

still i feel privileged enough to have a job, which i should be doing now :/

i've got mates who really struggle and want to leave home but can't.

so could you save to 730pcm for a deposit? worth living with family for a bit if so.
i would do 12 month or so of that and buy a cheap terrace and then rent that out for a couple of years, meanwhile keep stick your 730 in the back as you stay with your family. then get another for you to live in. try for a 3 bedroom and get two lodgers in the other rooms. they'll pay 300 quid a month up here at least. that 600 will piss a mortgage for a cheap house. you live rent free. sell the two in ten years when things are better, happy days.

Agreed and that's the plan!

I downsized this year and now paying 540pcm in London so I could put a bit away a month. Now aiming to get a bit more experience in this current role and move back home soon and live with the family on low rent for a bit.
