I live in Putney as its an easy commute to work from there. I dont get much change from £700 for my half of the rent
But as room shares can cost that im not too bothered, well I am its horrifying amount but in the grand scheme its decent

I'm assuming you and a mate got a place together then... My problem is i don't have any mates to move to london with, so at the mo a flat sharing website is my only real option..

You shouldn't have to pay £700 as long as you're not too fussy about where you live. Many average areas with little to do aside from Fried Chicken and crap Pubs are just a bus ride away from somewhere more upmarket. South London is affordable but isn't well covered by the Underground.

I think thats pretty good/sensible advice! - I'm currently in the throes of changing jobs so it all comes down to exactly where i would be based.. once i've nailed that down i'll then be able to have a better idea of where and what i can afford.

It's London Hipsters who descend on an average area and push the prices up because it's got the right Bars, Clubs or fucking Art Galleries at that particular time. They then move on and normality resumes. Bethnal Green was ruined at one point.

I live in East Ham which is beyond crap yet I'm not far from the C2C line for high speed access to The City and have enough things locally to provide me with whatever I need. I just go to nearby Stratford or somewhere if needs must yet living in Stratford would cost much more. The Olympics put the price up.

In all reality i have a very short list of requirements... Easy access to tube's trains etc... a supermarket and a half decent gym.. Most nights i'd come home from work and go to the gym and then go to bed - always a plus if you don't get burgled whilst you sleep, or stabbed/mugged as you walk home from work

I moved back to the UK as I wanted to experience it as a professional this time around. We had the simple goal of living in our place in Manchester and getting back into our old circle of friends.

Unfortunately we couldn't get a job in the north west- after 3 months we decided to apply anywhere in England and accept the first thing that came up. Both of us got the first jobs we applied for (down south of course) so ended up living in a hotel from sunday night to friday and driving back up to Manc each friday night. did it for 6 months before we rented our place out and moved down south.

After a bot of soul searching in India (hippy I know) we realised that the uk just wasn't working out for us. Not only could we not live in our flat, we were away from family and friends, doing hellish commutes and doing less interesting work for alot less pay.

Luckily we moved to Melbourne before we spent most of our savings and I am glad to say we now both have great jobs, easy commutes and couldn't be happier.

I would advise anyone in a career slump to grind it out and always be looking at how to improve things. No matter how grim things may seem, there is usually a way out

Going to see @@@@@@ @@@@@@@ and leaving halfway through the gig, ringing my boss, and telling him I hated it, they couldn't play, and that it would be a waste of money signing them.

So embarrassed I'll never name them ... thankfully I had a hit not long after so although it was a bad career move, it didn't hurt the career as much as it hurt my pride.

Arctic Monkeys ??

Somewhere less than an hour commute to your work and no more than one change on the Tube is recommended. South West and West London is overpriced but other places reasonable enough.

Two years ago at the Kolkata airport, i saw a couple of hippie girls and one hippie guy ( with complete hippie outfits ). I overheard them saying that they came to do some kind of meditation at some temple. Was that you by any chance?

I accepted a role with a worldwide sports manufacturer, who's UK head office at the time was based in Lancaster. I was single at the time and so moved lock stock and barrell to one of the UK's smallest Cities, which was full of students and only had two nightclubs, both of which were shite. After 7 months in the role, they decided they were moving the whole operation down to a site in Bolton and as this site also had someone doing my role, I was made redundant.

As a supposed stop-gap, I ended up working back at my former employers, on less money, in a different department. It was whilst here that I met my ex-wife and the next 8 years of shit that came with her.

Awful career move.

No such a thing as a bad career MOVE, just staying in jobs you detest or have no form of advancement.
If you leave a job you leave for a reason, maybe that you think you have gone stale in your current position, maybe for better money, maybe more security or better promotion prospects, but what you learn about yourself in times of adversity are what makes you stronger and better equipped to deal with what life throws at you. (IMHO of course)
