I am sure Alvarez has a massive contribution to world cup but not as big of a contribution as Messi. He contributed whatever he could to club but not as much as KDB, haaland and so many of our regular starters. So it's a moot point. Probably he would be mentioned in top 20 at ballon d'or

Irrelevant what his contribution was not that it was insignificant but he has performed superbly for club and country and has won the lot in one season.

Messi and KDB had games of shear brilliance but a lot of average in-between.

Haaland's goals record is incredible.

You would think so. But messi (finally) won the world cup, and this is his last season at the top level and last chance at the award, so the footballing world will give it to him.
