also sat in the north stand plenty of blues booing him

Not my sort of blues booing their own.

Whilst I agree entirely, I do see or sense a particular split between the opinions of generations?

I was sat in the North Stand and, like my little boy, the introduction of Mario, was greeted by excitement by most of the kids.

It was the adults, the parents and older ones who took it upon themselves to air their disapproval of him.

Two sides of the coin. The kids, younger fans see a name, a song, a mystique about Mario, the cult of celebrity.

The older fans will almost certainly have earned their dues watching City down the years, but some clearly don't think he is worth the continued effort.

The cult of the celebrity footballer is a strange thing, though. I never rated Beckham, but he took it upon himself to make himself the most marketable footballer the game has ever known.

Because of what he has achieved on that side, the waters are muddied a little, the wider public buy in to the belief that he must have been this great footballer.
agree with this not able to imagine bob taylor on the front of time magazine !!

I sit in the north stand and heard boos. Nobody around us booed him but I thought it was the Watford fans because it was stifled by cheers
From the Colin bell it sounded like the boos came from the Watford fans. I noticed the balotelli song died on the vine a bit in the singing area.

I sit in the corner of the north stand. There were twice as many away fans than normal so it would be amplified.

I'm in 120 and there was a little booing, but could of come from Watford fans as they're pretty close

I was in the singing section. As far as I was concerned all the booing came from Watford, but the Balotelli songs were not sung with as much enthusiasm as usual.

The non-stop negative publicity takes its toll - especially when it's presented as mancini v balotelli rather than the world against balotelli or City.

The only thing missing from the game was a Balotelli goal.

And the most disappointing aspect of the game was the performance / commitment from Dzeko. Does he want to start? 11 James Milners please

Can't get my head around city fans booing one of there own players..

I totally agree that people shouldn't be booing Balotelli but there were definitely players in our darker days who deserved shit from the fans and got it quite regularly from a sizeable number, both home and away, usually at the end of games. Nobody will persuade me that there weren't some City players who didn't deserve grief when we were on our way down to the third flight. There were players around then who didn't give a shit about the club and it was outrageously obvious. Didn't Niall Quinn say in his autobiography that there were more players at the club who wanted City to lose than win at one point? It's a fine sentiment and certainly I don't think booing your own is something that should be done on whim but sometimes it is essential that supporters vent their feelings when players are willfully dragging a club to the brink.

quite a contrast to the cheering throng as Mario arrived, it's funny how the ears of some are tuned in to hear what they want to hear. In the East Stand round me it was just applause and encouragement.

There were 47,000 at the recent Manchester derby, didn't stop me hearing the prick in front of me call Evra a black twat, and who was rightly removed.

I was not sat in the East Stand and perhaps instead of citing an agenda of people of being pro or anti Mario, it really is as simple as Mario being booed loudly enough by a sizeable portion of the North Stand to warrant being taken aback by it in the first place.

The fact it was a surprise, would suggest I can't recall too many of our players over the last 35 years being booed before they have even kicked a ball?

Which suggests City fans are pretty sound.
