Barca v City Post Match Thread

Ok mate - tell me how a 4-0 battering by a strolling Barcelona and Messi playing at 50% of his normal game but still bagging a hat-trick, makes us anything but further away?
Because the results does not tell us as much. We were better than the year we lost 1-0 there with Joe in maniacal form. We controlled lots of the play. Pressured them early and they often couldn't get out of the back. We created chances and wee toe to toe for good seats of the game. In every prior meeting, we looked like we were playing with 10 men to their 12 from the start. This game looked nothing like any of the previous games. Yes we lost. Probably worse than ever before. But we are clearly closer to them now than ever before.

Any one game can get out of hand, especially on errors and bad luck. But if you couldn't see the closing of the gap, well!

We lost because of many things but Pep's tactics wasn't one of them. We pressed them well and managed to keep the ball too.

Just think about that for a second. City managed to play better than Barcelona in Camp Nou.

Now the only thing that we need to hone is turning chances into goals and limiting mistakes and we'll be fine.

Feel we're Gona see the end of Kun in the summer :( think pep likes strikers that can do more than just score goals.
Think you are right and for me not selecting him tonight worked to a certain extent.

Arsenal have been playing nice football for years.

Which part? That Spurs have a few decent players or that Guardiola, who lost three times consecutively to Spanish opposition in the semis, whisper it quietly may not be the best manager in world football.
Look I get that he's the best manager that City have ever employed. But what pisses me off is that he doesn't recognize the limitations of his current set of players.
But should his current set of players have the limitations they are displaying, mainly the inability to turn huge levels of possession into goals? These are mainly top players, nearly all are regular internationals and most have a fair amount of top level experience. Could it be that the limitations are due to Pep asking them to play in a way that is alien to them? Or perhaps the players physically can't play in the way he wants for 90 minutes twice a week.
I agree it's early days and I believe we'll be three points better off after Sunday, but I have to admit recent results haven't been impressive.

Still very early days yet. No need for panic stations. Remember Pellers' early days and we went on to win a double that season with a squad that was nowhere near the quality of this one and also in a harder to win league that year than this.

We do need to beat Barca next time though, as assuming BMG beat the sectarians a draw or defeat would put us as favourites to NOT qualify from the group and that would be unacceptable under any circumstances given our squad quality. Not getting out of the group this season would be a regression of Swales-like proportions. Managers have been sacked for less.

Some big games arriving fast though which can either act as a springboard to a great season or a noose to add pressure to our manager. A league cup derby against united. I shudder to think of the pressure Pep will be under if we lose against Barca and them twats.

An easy run in the league though (on paper) in November but a tough ish December.

Onwards and upwards. Remember 2013/14, an up and down start and we went on to win a double. Tonight isn't the end of the world.

Exactly! We're gonna be brilliant, only the beginning
