Can I first say I am thick. Now I have admitted that please can someone explain what is happening.
It seems to be about them paying PR people to slag off players. If so why are the police involved? Is it because the PR company did not pay tax on the money?
P. S. If you are laughing and shaking your head please read the first line again.

My reading of what is going on is that some indviduals / former directors at the club were using club funds to engage in some very dodgy underhand tactics that were aimed at bosting their own image and damaging the clubs own players / other directors. The acts themselves are very dodgy but not sure its illegal, the miss use of funds / covering up of the use of funds is the potential crime as i understand it.

Lots of people seem to be assuming that the Club is involved in some massive fraud but I don't see the evidence of that. Lots of football conspiracy theorists jumping on it and making 2 + 2 = 10. That said lets see what comes out.

Money laundering is part of the enquiry. PR fee overpaid with balance going elsewhere?
That explains it better and as per @Rascal post. Simply pay g on the QT isn't criminal even if he is deceiving the board. Slicing a bit if the top however.....

I haven't seen money laundering anywhere.

Marca describe it as follows:

What crimes are being alleged?

The judicial investigation is looking at a possible crime of improper management in the case of having paid an inflated and above-market-value price for these services.

They are also looking at a possible crime of corruption by individuals, should any director have received a commission.

A report from the criminal investigations unit of the Catalan police force was handed in to judge Alejandra Gil Lima, of the 13th Barcelona investigating court, and it is believed to have mentioned signs of corruption considering that the club might have have paid a price "six times higher" than the market rate for the services.

My feeling is, that despite how embarrassing this is for the club, they will find a way to spin it as a positive.

Basically, a bad bunch screwed everyone over, the club, finances, fans, players. And benefited themselves from it. And now they are gone, and all is well, the end.

Marca describe it as follows:
There are various references to laundering, perhaps Balague is the most reliable, but much is speculation.
