Barcelona trip advice please!

Really? That bad mate?
When we went for the game a couple of years ago, one of the lads got done three times, once on the tube on the way to the game, had his pocket picked, then mugged twice walking back to the hotel after drinking after the match. Out of 6 of us, he was the only 1 who had any trouble, but he stupidly decided to walk back alone, it was about 2 km, and mostly back streets, the second muggers were a bit unhappy because he'd only got his clothes left to nick. Luckily he'd left his passport and a credit card in the hotel. Also one of the women my wife works with was pick pocketed before she even got out of the airport, lost several hundred euro's.

The moral is, keep your wits about you, and be prepared for it, and don't carry more than you need, ie cards and cash, also take a photocopy of your passports and leave them in the safe in your hotel room.

Cheers chaps, have booked us in at the eurostars grand marina hotel that seems to overlook the port etc from the roof top? Decent nightlife around?

I have stayed at that hotel it's ok, location is great. I am Barcelona the weekend after you but always book apartments now.

Been there a couple of times, love the city. Stay in Las Ramblas/ University area, as others have said keep your wits about you and you'll be fine. was shocked at the amount of beggars on last visit and the sorry state of some of them

Been a few times, been fortunate enough not to lose anything yet. Keep your wallet in your front pocket, leave anything you don't need in the hotel safe.
The tourist buses are ok and cover pretty much everything but do you want to spend all bloody day on a bus? Swerve the Nou Camp, not worth the time and effort. Do head for Montjuic, stunning views, it's a couple of stops on the underground to the funicular (a train that goes up the hillside) then a cable car to the top, or you can walk. Best places to eat are the little courtyards off las Ramblas.

Go to a place called Ciudad Condal, great food. Even on a really busy friday.saturday night they'll have you sat down within 15 minutes. Well worth it

Passeige de gracia is the place for shopping if you have a few quid!,Mare magnum has a decent sized shopping center with a good tapas restaurant (tapa tapa) El Poble sec has some great little pintxos (basque tapas) bars that are really well priced.
