Look you'd be surprised - a lot of the younger fans simply don't realise that one of our own died in that crash... and sing that song out of ignorance.
Me, Don and Patrick have put a lot of time, effort and (our own) money into organising this for you all... we don't want the occasion to be ruined by a silly minority. At they very least we would hope that people would not sing m**ich songs as a way of saying thank you to us.
I understand from Don that GMR and BBC North West are going to be there so I thought it was worth explaining to any younger fans in the hope that we don't drag the club's name through the mud. We're there to have a good time but people need to realise that all eyes will now be upon us.
I would also point out that m**ich songs are disrespectful to the owners who have given us so much, and who would no doubt be horrified at some of the songs that get sung. We have such a bright future ahead of us - it would be a shame if we as fans screwed it up by making our knew owners think we're going to be a PR nightmare. A major reason they bought the club was to raise the profile of Abu Dhabi - our success will be Abu Dhabi's success and they will bask in the glory of their achievements when we become a world class club like FC Barcelona.
If however all we bring them is negative press (which will now be GLOBAL press) by acting like ignorant fools then I'm sure they would drop us like a stone and go look for a club with a more appreciative set of fans.
I don't want to spoil anyone's fun (quite the contrary I've worked bloody hard to make sure people have a good time) and I'm not trying to be a killjoy or part of the "PC Brigade"... I'm just trying to ensure that we show the world what a great club and a great set of fans we can be. I want everybody, locals, fans, press etc etc to go away with a smile on their face and a head full of happy memories.
