Barclays caught fiddling!(All the banks now!)

I've posted this before but to me it reflects very poorly on us as a society that not one "banker", for want of a better expression, has even been cuffed, let alone charged, for fraud in relation to the banking crisis.

It is impossible for me to conceive that many were not aware of what was going on, exploited it and profited from it dishonestly, and this case does little to dispel the perception of a prevailing culture of dishonesty among people in the City.

People convicted of involvement in the civil disorder of last summer were quite rightly made an example of - partly to serve a a lesson to others but also because maintaining order is vital in a functioning society. The same could be said about the perception that all are equal before the law. I find it hard to believe that there isn't enough evidence to at least form a prima facie case against certain people in the financial sector.

Unless and until this is addressed, there will be an enduring view among many that the industry is (still) full of crooks which is a wholly unhealthy state of affairs given the importance of the Financial Services sector to the UK economy.

I am certain that many more people from that industry would have been arrested in the USA for fraud (or related offences) than has been the case in the UK.
A cynic might suggest a connection between the number of bankers and people heavily involved in the financial markets who are members of/paid advisers to the government, the routine offers of bribes (sorry, paid directorships) to former ministers and the amount that some institutions pay to certain political parties, either directly or by 'sponsoring' events at party conferences etc.
If you were really, really cynical, one might suggest the 'old school tie' friendships/connections between alumni of certain schools.

I am saying you are neither but you are guilty of saying that the banksters are being unfairly picked on.

That's because, as a group, we are mate. I'm a big lad and can take it but it doesn't mean the "other side" should not have a say when mistruths are being peddled by politicians and the such about how we got in this mess.

I've never said the banks have no responsibility and I never would, in this Barclays case the culprits have been indentified and I applaud all those involved in bringing some form of justice (even though those disadvantaged will not benefit).

Fear not thou mate as next week we will undoubtedly have a thread on the interest rate swap market and I will defend the banks (to a point) on that one so normal service will be resumed between us!!! In the meantime enjoy being right on this one ;-)

I dont enjoy it, I just want people to know what's going on.

I am at a loss as to why there is so much apathy out there towards it.

outrage fatigue, the bank bosses have been bullet-proof even through the most blatant scams, besides it's the media who fan the flames or in the banks case pour water on it like they did over child abuse and the priesthood.

Well Bob gave his bonus up yesterday and for this, i think he will say sorry and give up his shares option so poor old Bob will probably have to get by on his basic this year.

Lets hope he doesn't need to apply for housing benefit in his hour of need as his mates, Dave and Gideon are getting shut lol.
