Barry or Fernando, Milner or Delph ?

I accept your point, I think Barry reads a game better and has a better passing range however I don't think Barry had the legs to partner Toure any longer, Fernandinho had and it was his introduction into the team which allowed Yaya the freedom to do his thing. In the system we play under Pellegrini it was the right move as Barry would have been skinned alive in this system.

With Barry one of his main skills was his ability to sit infront of the back four, read the game, get his backside in the way and then win a cheap free kick.

On that basis Im not sure he would get skinned alive, he was a master of being in the right position and never really relied on his pace.

I think my point was more we needed a player of his ilk alongside Yaya. Fernandinho does put out fires around the pitch but sometimes you need the discipline to stick where teams are most likely to hurt you

Milner is irrelevant because 1. He is not a central midfielder as Liverpool as well found out pretty soon and 2. He decided to leave. Whatever you think of that, no point in thinking of him as an option.

As for the other three, I would pick any one of them who isn't playing in a midfield two witg yaya, so has to be Barry.

I wish we could have bought Barry when he was younger. Not without fault but a class act who will never get the recognition he should because the loyalty Villa fans think they deserve from the likes of Delph cost him time with a Champions League club.

Huge fan of Barry. My main gripe being he never got a chance with Pelligrini.
Far better than Fernando.
Milner I wasn't reall a fan.Crafter nothing else.
To be fair though Delph looks the same so far.

If we had Barry and De Jong at their peaks with our current front four that would really be something

Loved Barry during the Bobby Manc years, still a class act at Everton in the way they play as proved at the first semi final leg. But Yaya and Gazbaz we'ed get killed. However I bet our left backs would love him back, made the pair of them look better than they are.

Just out of curiosity, did we ever find out which England international was at the centre of them allegations regarding text messages to journos and what not around the FA Cup final?

Barry is finished at the top level. Was arguably Everton's worst player last season. He's undoubtedly having a better season this season, but he's at his level. Mid PL, and even at that level not sure how much longer he can go on.

Replacing him with Fernandinho was excellent business and a very smart move by the club.

Barry is better than Fernando, huge bollock by the Club.

Barry was sold in a different window to Fernando being bought, and he was replaced by Fernandinho.

What you've posted is a bit like me saying Balotelli is a lot better than Kelechi, huge bollock dropped by the club, when in reality the two transfers are totally unrelated.

Milner mostly played as a winger for us so the comparison to Delph is kind of irrelevant, Sterling was his actual replacement which was definitely a good move.

Fernandinho was Barry replacement and in all areas a much better player. Delph is defo not here as a Milner replacement but in centre mid has proved himself more than an English quota buy. Injuries have had us over this season

I think my old mother could've started this thread.

Everything is awful today everything was wonderful in the past blah blah moan moan.

How about Nigel Clough and Nicky Summerbee while we're at it?

Have to agree. Barry was a very decent player for us but, like the rest of the midfield, looked foolish in Europe.

As we now play with an open midfield and no press, he'd be passed through, around, over and we'd all be bemoaning his lack of pace.
