I accept your point, I think Barry reads a game better and has a better passing range however I don't think Barry had the legs to partner Toure any longer, Fernandinho had and it was his introduction into the team which allowed Yaya the freedom to do his thing. In the system we play under Pellegrini it was the right move as Barry would have been skinned alive in this system.
With Barry one of his main skills was his ability to sit infront of the back four, read the game, get his backside in the way and then win a cheap free kick.
On that basis Im not sure he would get skinned alive, he was a master of being in the right position and never really relied on his pace.
I think my point was more we needed a player of his ilk alongside Yaya. Fernandinho does put out fires around the pitch but sometimes you need the discipline to stick where teams are most likely to hurt you
