Barry Vs Milner

Anyone who thinks Milner is a better footballer than Barry should watch that first half against Swansea on a continuous loop for a week.

Intelligence and composure vs physicality and bluster, it's a no contest.
Instead of a comparison of 45 minutes of football; i'll go off the whole season where Milner has been in a different league to Barry. Barry's played well about three times. Milner has played well nearly every week.

Now, I like Barry. I thought he - along with Lescott - were our most consistently good players in our Prem winning season. But this season he's just been well below that level. He went four months without playing well once.

-- Sat May 04, 2013 5:35 pm --

I'm going off their entire City career, but my point was summed up perfectly in the way they both played in that first half.

Barry - reading the game, snuffing out danger, incisive intelligent quick passing, retaining the ball, keeping it moving quickly, and dictating the tempo of the game.

Milner - Running around a lot, head down, smashing the ball across the box as hard as he can without picking out anyone in particular, running around a lot, chasing around after the ball, misplacing and over hitting passes, running around a lot.

I provided you with stats from Milner's entire career, and they highlight he's not as unintelligent as you make him out to be.

Really? I must have missed that? I wasn't aware there was a quantifiable statistic that measured intelligence in football, please tell me again. I mean I know there are IQ tests, but scholars disagree over whether that is a failsafe measure of intelligence. If there is a test that can measure the decision making speed and success of a footballer it could absolutely revolutionise the sport, so I'd be fascinated to read your findings.

doesnt really matter as neither of them should be there. Milner should be a wingback and is a 'spoiler'. Barry is just too slow. we need another player there. worry is, we might need two as cover for ACN yet again!

Step 1: Mancini benches Milner
Step 2: A month or two goes by, Milner barely sees the field
Step 3: We have midfield problems, people wonder why Milner doesn't get a chance
Step 4: Milner 'finally' gets his chance. One or two good games, then several like today
Step 5: See Step 1

This is the never-ending Milner Cycle. Guaranteed 3 years from now blues will be wondering why Milner never got a run of games at City.

In our team alone, who would you class as "intelligent"

To your mighty standard of course

Both are good players and highly dependable, but neither is indipensable. Along with Garcia, we now have 3 (4 if you include Rodwell) possible midfielders and not one is a nail on starter if we buy sensibly this summer.

In terms of football intelligence, making quick decisions, reading the game well, good movement, choosing the right pass, I'd class the following as really intelligent footballers:

Nastasic
Kompany
Barry
Yaya
Silva
Nasri
Tevez

Decent intelligence:
Zabba
Clichy
Aguero
