Barry Vs Milner

Instead of a comparison of 45 minutes of football; i'll go off the whole season where Milner has been in a different league to Barry.

Barry's played well about three times.

Milner has played well nearly every week.

YCMIU.... Know it's all about opinions but that's so far off the mark about Barry it must be a level

Brave man. Not many willing to come on here and expose a serious lack of knowledge about football. Well done, sir.

pmsl. spot on.

I like Milner a lot, but think he's a nowhere near good enough footballer to play (regularly) in the centre of a midfield two for us. He's simply not good enough on the ball, makes too many wrong decisions. And his positional play isn't great either. Barry's still far better than him on all those counts and is a massive miss whenever he's out.

Milner's best position for us is the one he plays 90% of the time.

I don't know what people have been watching this season saying Barry has had a good one (and I do think he was excellent last season). From Villa at home to Newcastle at home he didn't have one good game and it's only been the Newcastle game onwards he's found his form again. December (bar his goal v Reading) and January he was woeful. Champions League he was dominated in every game.

We bought Milner on the back of a fantastic breakthrough season as a goalscoring, box to box midfielder, but then for the next 3 years our tactical genius seldom utilises him in this position, instead shunting him out wide to a position he used to be underwhelming in; by this logic, in the unfortunate event Mancini is still our manager next season, if we sign Gareth Bale in the summer he will be played at leftback.

Milner and Barry together would be the ideal midfield combination for us in this league, an upgrade United's successful Carrick-Cleverley combo, but instead we prefer the homeless man's Xabi Alonso, and the lazy, 5 good games a season Yaya Toure (who in my opinion should never be considered in any other position than second striker, where his lack of effort won't leave us overrun like it generally does now)
Rag alert

In our team alone, who would you class as "intelligent"

To your mighty standard of course
In terms of football intelligence, making quick decisions, reading the game well, good movement, choosing the right pass, I'd class the following as really intelligent footballers:

Nastasic
Kompany
Barry
Yaya
Silva
Nasri
Tevez

Decent intelligence:
Zabba
Clichy
Aguero
So how can a player with just 4 less goals but 18 more assists than one you have classed as "really intelligent" be the exact opposite, whilst both being midfielders?
I've not got the time or patience to deal with this

Barry & Milner offer different skills and each has value. If I had to keep one player though, it would be Milner for the simple reason that his pace is something that no one else in the squad has.

You don't have eyes or a brain yourself it seems as well

I think Barry still has good games in him but has not been as good recently.

Milner is not consistent enough.

Neither score enough goals or create enough.

Neither are good enough for Europe.

Wouldn't be overly fussed if both went and the lack of contract offer for Barry suggests thats what might happen at least to Barry.

Been a good buy though and served us well.
