So how can a player with just 4 less goals but 18 more assists than one you have classed as "really intelligent" be the exact opposite, whilst both being midfielders?
I've not got the time or patience to deal with this
You don't have eyes or a brain yourself it seems as well
There is no statistic that measures football intelligence. Assists is certainly not it, especially when you are comparing a defensive midfielder with a winger. By your rationale Kelvin Etuhu is a more intelligent footballer than Claude Makelele because he's got more assists.

If you think Milner is a more intelligent footballer than Barry then I'm afraid we're too far apart on our experience / viewpoint of football to make it worthwhile to even have a debate. It's a waste of both of our time so we might as well just leave it there.

I never said he was more intelligent than Barry.

And your very first sentence proves that this is entirely opinion based, which makes your 'comparison' even more pointless and void.

Barry is our most intelligent player, he is leagues ahead of anyone else. I don't know what his plans are when he hangs his boots up but he would make some manager.

An outstanding footballer that I don't think we'll ever replace, not like for like anyway. I love Jimmy but sorry nowhere near gazbaz at that job.

Do you think Barry had the charisma to be a Manager? They need to be good all-rounders and, despite his Captain credentials, he doesn't strike me as being a Boss. Kompany and Vieira are Managers in waiting.

I agree that Barry is one of the best at what he does.

But Jimmy isn't asked to do what Barry does, they play in two different positions, so I don't understand the comparison. It's like saying 'Kompany vs Kolarov'.

I find the comparison strange as both players are very different but I'd like to make a further point regarding Milner.

I would suggest he is much more vital to the continuing sucess of the team over a season the Barry is (again, Barry is still important) because of his sheer work rate and versatility. Milner can play well almost all over the pitch, a quality which is rare to find and means injury scares are much less a worry when we can seemlessly slot Milner into most positions across the pitch. Milner is by far our most important squad player and while Barry is a good performer Milner has shown throughout this season we can expect a good display from his wherever he is asked to play.

I'd suggest a Milner type player is more vital to a squads success through a season than Barry who is less adaptable in play. Again, Barry is great though and I'd bloody happy we have both. That being said Barry is inevitably starting to fade with age and he will be replaced long before Milner is.

Neither are world are beaters or should be regular starters next season imo. Milner is an excellent squad player, he is versatile, reliable and you know exactly what you're gonna get for him every game in that he will give 100% and give everything for the cause. I do find it weird that we signed him on the back of a great season playing in CM for Villa even getting picked in the TOTY but then never actually playing him there. Nevertheless he will still be an important squad player for the next few years at least.

Barry is very underrated by other football fans but on here is overrated, some make him sound like the English Pirlo. He has had some terrific games such as the derby or the semi final but in others, mainly away games against high pressuring teams like the Southampton match, he is like a pub player and he also struggles in Europe. Seems we're closing in on Fernandinho and Barry will probably be used as more of a squad player next season.

Barry is built for the EPL and he is fantastic at it. the sad thing is he is to slow for the champs league. doesent mean hes shit its just not his game. Milner is can play both well due to his pace.

Pace ?? seen faster Slugs.

Of course it is opinion based, but football by nature is "a game of opinions". If team selection was based soley on stats and physicality like American sports are, then Milner would start ahead of Barry every time. But thankfully, it's not, and our manager realises how much more intelligent Barry is, and that's why he starts every week.
