Basel (H) Post Match Thread

Lots of people complaining about certain players rightly too in some cases. Biggest complaint should go to Pep, the team was out of balance for a comfortable win. However good experience for the youngsters and good game time for the rest. In hindsight I would have preferred Delph instead of Yaya.
Never mind no real harm done.

the full backs were poor last night, and highly likely club legend yaya's last game in a blue shirt

but pleased for more minutes in foden's legs can only get better, diaz looked lively also,

felt the more established players were holding a little back for games to come.

bottom line we are through spurs aint

Shows we need to get the league wrapped up pronto so that we can stick kdb and Dav in cotton wool, safe for the CL.

Glad we’re through, happy with anyone except Liverpool in the quarters.

don't like to see us lose whatever the circumstances but i guess young players, 2nd XI etc etc...

but still, i thought a lot of the team ethos went astray.

We rested key players and prevented possible injury,we gave second stringers game time and, very importantly,we gave two gifted kids extremely valuable minutes and experience.Although the result on the night wasnt what we wanted, we still qualified with ease.
Last night was never going to be anything more than being efficient, using the game to our advantage and ultimately getting into the next round.

Job done.

So we lost a game which had no purpose.
Who cares.
Would people have rather won at the expense of injury to one of our critical players? Thought not.
On the positive side our youngsters got an outing and we rested our first team.
We have much bigger fish to fry in th coming weeks and if there ever was a game we could afford to lose that was it.
Looking forward to Stoke.
I'll tell you who cares, around 47000 City fans who paid to watch
How do we know anyone would have been injured! But the fact is, it was a heartless performance by a number of very highly paid players who should have been extremely motivated to give the manager a selection headache for Stoke

Me too. It’s a nailed on defeat in the away leg at the scousers

Very disappointing last night and feel sorry for people who had to pay for that.
It's clear some players didn't care. Worryingly the quality isn't anywhere near the mark when a lot of first teamers are out and we look average at best.
Lets hope Pep gave them a blasting and we never see a repeat as it was woeful.

Probably not the game to single our deficiencies player wise the second half as a team we were poor but if I was to it would be Bravo, he gives the back four no confidence at all is poor in his decision making basically because he is too slow in setting up the play from the back and above all a poor shot stopper , that second on his near side albeit a result of shocking defending in the lead up to the shot was the only time he was tested in the second half and he failed as he often does.

We certainly need a better second string goal keeper that will put real pressure on Eddy to perform the way he has for much of this season next season , this is as important if not more so over the summer than a replacement for Yaya and another striker of much better quality than Nacho will ever be.

Manure's current goal keeper stocks are better than ours and once again their stand out player of the season keeping them in Europe and in the hunt for a Chumps League is their goal keeper and while his number two is a decent comedown he is more reliable than Bravo.

Once again Bravo showed he cannot add the value a keeper needs to perform at in this side and the way Pep has set up this side to play and why Hart had to go.

Thought Bravo had a good game..calm on the ball, great bit of skill to beat the player closing him down too.
His passing was excellent and he didn't do anything wrong in my opinion.
1st goal was defensive error and he didn't have much chance of saving it from that range and with the pace of the shot, same for the 2nd goal really ... excellent finish and again it was the power of the shot and he took it early which makes it hard for a keeper.
Bravo had improved hugely since last season.

In hindsight i'm sure Pep would wish Delph hadn't been injured but never mind eh.

Well i was one of the 47,000 and obviously i'm in a minority as i was happy seeing Foden and the other kids get a run out, that Jesus finally got 90 minutes under his belt, the only thing i 'cared' about last night was that key players got a well earned rest going into the business end of the season without picking up any further injuries.

The only thing that worries me from watching last night is what happens when 21 and 17 don't play, it scares me.
And aguero and ederson and Walker and dinho and ederson and vk and Otto. It was our reserves last night don’t get why people are worried that team won’t play another game together cos there likely won’t be another dead rubber. At times they put some nice stuff together as well. Gundogan should’ve scored first half to put us two up as well. It was a stroll last night no need to worry at all. Only slight concern is Stones who has lost his aggression and timing, he is really struggling to get back to his early season form.

No midfield, full backs both had stinkers, Zinc looks like the run of games has caught him up, centre halfs all over the place, Jesus nowhere near upto pace.

Sane & Bravo standouts & Diaz also from limited time.

If Gundogan out the early chance away to make it 2 we'd have battered them.

However, through so job done.

Good to see Foden get a full game but he's nowhere near the starting eleven quality, Yaya had his zimmer frame out - IMO this is where the game went wrong, a midfield duo that never worked.

Laporte needs to sharpen up, looks like Stones when he first arrived, but Pep will hopefully work his magic in the same way.
Not a great performance, but then again, there wasn't any real pressure to get a result, hence the weakened teem.

It's time to move on from the ZInchenko experiment at LB. He's done well as can be expected as a fill-in but last night he was awful and against Chelsea he could have easily have seen red for that stupid challenge in the first half which could have cost us dearly. Nothing personal against him but he isn't a LB and is weak physically and defensively.

Delph must be close to coming back soon, and Mendy is training again.
