Basel (H) Post Match Thread

Those spitting their dummies out over this match seem like the same who spit their dummies out over a loss in pre-season.

We won 5-2 on aggregate. We rested 1st team players. The kids had a good run out. We're into the quarter finals.

Let's not forget 15 points clear and a cup already won.

One bad performance and you have people on here calling players like Jesus as shit and fans booing in the stadium.

Apparently it’s taken the gloss of the season for some

Not the best but not too sure what people expected? 90 mins at home for Foden and good mins for Diaz, which is one thing a lot of us have been hoping for a while. other players poor, but the volume of changes bring them down
no partnership with stones and Laporte yet, but the only way that will have a chance of developing is thru time

Pep should play a stronger xi next time and drop half of that lot who he trusted tonight.
Stones needs putting in the EDS.

He has a point. The drop off in quality when Kev, Dave and Sergio aren’t out there is disproportionately steep. Had it not been for Leroy and Bernardo (1st half only) and a decent cameo from young Diaz, I’d have rated that as the most toothless City performance of the last 5 years. We had over 900 passes and only one shot in the final 55 minutes of the game. Our back up players have got to have more zip than that. Jesus in particular I thought was awful and Stones sloppy beyond belief in the 1st half. Good for Foden to get a run out and Jesus will of course improve dramatically once he gets his fitness back, but all in all that was fucking piss poor stuff.

If he or you think any team can win this comp with anything but their 1st 11 then you're mistaken and it was that comment from him i disagreed with.

We didn't even play a 2nd string tonight, it was a 3rd/4th string and we did it because we could afford too mate.

By all means be upset and dont like it but some just dont seem to know what modern football is about and the need for rotation and the mindset of players at this level when games or ties are won.

It was never going to be a night of champagne football tonight and for those who thought it would be......wake up, sorry.

You are, of course, absolutely right, but Jeez it was hard to watch. If you were looking for entertainment tonight just wasn't the night. I think the commentator said at one stage that City fans have become accustomed to being entertained. Oh well, these always Stoke on a cold March Monday.
Agreed. It did not set pulses racing, but we’ll hopefully save that for a game that matters. Note Liverpool’s 0-0 snore draw. Both managers (Pep and Klopp) two of the best in Europe. Wonder what they know???

Had it been a decider, I’m sure Silva would have been in England, not Spain, KDB would have been much warmer, and Sergio, too!

Ain’t that the truth. You can pretty much see the smug smiles as they readily type out their particular brand of spite and shite.

Some key players rested, some young lads given a good run out, others given time to get back to match sharpness, and through to the quarter finals at a canter with no injuries.

The relief at finally being able to have a good moan is so strong in some on here. I’ve got news for them which will no doubt piss them off mightily...we're about to win the league and complete a domestic double and who knows, maybe a treble.

They are second only to BT pundits in their obvious ridiculousness.

What bollocks. Pointing out, not unreasonably, that that was a bag of shite, doesn’t mean the posters concerned are smug or that they’ve lost all sense of perspective. We know it was a dead rubber, and no-one’s overly arsed. Several players were very poor tonight regardless of that, that’s all

Grim watching toure like that, regardless of what he's done for city, he's finished unfortunately, not good to watch

Everyone knows that though. Pep knows, he knows. All the fans know. He is going in the summer. No point over analysing him. He has been great for us but time has caught up with him.

The bigger concerns are the ones who aren’t going who don’t step up when they come in. Stones must have been sat on his arse getting splinters for the last few games, watching the lads lifting a trophy at Wembley and his last performances are Wigan and that one. He needs to up his game sharpish because he looks like a nervous academy player playing his first game at times.
