Corrected , the drop off in quality when Ederson , Walker , Kompany ,Ottamnedi , Mendy , Sterling , DeBruyne , Merlin , Aguero , Fernandinho arent out there is disproportionately steep , just the ten players rested /not available tonight. Agree regarding Foden and Jesus but also Diaz was superb when he came on , not sure about piss poor Exeter but certainly diappointing.

The drop off is because all 3 positions were changed, something most can’t get a grip of. If we’d played two or one of KDB, Silva or Fernandinho with the players tonight filling in the space(s) we’d not notice the drop off. Same with the back 5.
Some just either can’t or won’t get it. That team tonight was to rest at least 9 players who will probably come in v Stoke. They’ve all aren’t their rest and tonight was just a training exercise. Of course Pep will be unhappy with aspects of it but he’ll also see lots of positives.

A few positives:

Jesus got some minutes into his legs.

Sane looking very sharp again.

Foden and Diaz got more experience and made positive contributions to the game.


However, it's concerning that Stones continues to look a bit shaky. Another negative for me is seeing Yaya play. As we all know, physically, he is past it. Watching his decline is painful.

Can't say I heard any booing tonight , bar when yaya stepped away from a free kick, could also have been people booing at the coins been throwing and nothing being done to stop it

All this bollocks about not staking a claim. Pep didn't care about that result. He put Tosin on on 85 mins with Sergio and KDB on the bench. It was a pointless exercise. I'm a paying fan and I understand that.

Agreed. This was to get some experience, possibly win but just not get smashed with a very second string team out. Pep wanted to see what was what with them more than anything. I would assume what he usually looks for, composure, not letting your chin drop if something repeatedly does not come off. All those attitude attributes along with how they move and generally played to ofc.

I accepted in my head another Shaktar second leg kind of performance and result because as much as we smashed them away they are a well drilled cl club.

I can't say it bothers me to much because it was a showcase match against a smart opposition.

The alternative is the first team play an awkward match with the oppo fighting for pride with us not being 100% bleed for the badge into the match.

Pep: We are happy to be in the quarter-finals, we are so happy for that. Second half we didn't attack and forgot to even pass the ball... the second half was really really poor.

Yeah im pretty sure he has seen it for what it was. Poor performance but through with players rested, some given minutes and the kids gaining experience.

That's his job, to get us through doing all those things when he can and tonight was one of those opportunities.

THE booing was a disgrace. I told a couple behind me to fuck off and support the filth. Bet Fodens confidence went sky high hearing it. I'd like a refund from 1977-2012 please. Jeez I'll be minted.

Poor performance and disappointed we have lost our unbeaten home record despite the second string team we put our. Positives Sane, Bernardo and Diaz.

Stones and Laporte were crap. Stones since his return from injury has come back a different player, no confidence on the ball, lack of concentration and shite passing.

Laporte was not much better and was at fault for the second goal.

At the end of the day we are through to the next round so that what matters.

Laporte was also at fault for their first. He went too far forward and left a huge gap straight down the middle for Basle to run through. He might get away with that when Ferno is playing but Yaya was never going to drop into the space left.

Really? You know that for sure? Peps a winner and doesn like losing. What he really wont like is players dropping their levels which is why he's the best manager on the planet. Full 11, we can win the competition yet I'm sure Pep would like to have more confidence if some of those players are relied upon should injuries/ suspensions occur. It's rare I criticise these days, no need to, if it's warranted I will though.

Nothing to really criticise about tonight though. We were through so he played fringe players and kids, of course it’ll look disjointed with so many changes but pep will also know that if he needed to play Gundogan or Jesus or Laporte he can rely on them coming in as individuals to fill in gaps.
Whilst not the best performance I’m happy to have paid to watch Goden, Diaz, Zinchenko and even Tosin get good game time, good to see Jesus back and tbh Sane is worth admission alone at times.

Yet pretty much all of those have made a positive contribution to the season and will continue to do so when really required. The only objectives were to get through without injuries, give some fringe players some game time and give a few of the kids a run out. We did all that and coasted through to the last 8.

I agree but don't think tonight was coasting in fact we were poor everywhere the 1st pass & the last pass.

Giving lads game time is ok for me too as long as there is direction the will to work your knackered off & show the manager why he can't drop him yet the lot of them bar Sane & Bernardo were shite or bang average.

Our Back 5 tonight were f in pants & rightly so booed for knocking 800 passes sideways.

Yaya needs to pack up go he doesn't help 1 bit in those games he is to frigging slow.

Jesus I can understand he just com.ing back but others like Stones were shocking.
