Basel (H) Post Match Thread

Actually think Gundogan is so used to taking a back seat to Silva and KDB that he doesn't know how-to step up when he is the key player. His performance tonight was so disappointing. Total passenger. Outshine by a 17 year old and a 34 year old who can't run. And neither of those has particularly good games. He's such a good player but could also be so much more.

See all those searches and security checks were very thorough given all the flares in the away end. All the showsec plebs on those turnstiles should be sacked!

Obviously Pep is doing a great job and so many changes would mean a drop off in her intensity but some players have to do more. The whole defence was appalling tonight. Half hearted in challenges highlighted by Laportes for their second goal.

We all knew the tie was over but until the mentality changes to want to win every game, because we are Manchester City, we will stay just below an elite club. As for some booing if it was Madrid they would have been waving the white hankies or whatever they do.

While Kompany and Otamendi remain fit Laporte and Stones better get used to the bench on that showing.

Forget the kids and a past it Toure there were still 6 experienced internationals out there and I am putting Jesus and Sane in the kids category too to be kind. We should have applied ourselves better.

Don't think Zinchenko was as bad as people are saying. He gave the ball away a little bit and he had a couple of brain farts but he also played 2 or 3 excellent passes which broke the lines and he also made some really good recoveries. To be honest, I don't even mind him giving the ball away in games like tonight. He displayed personality to try and actual do something positive. Was more embarrassing watching Laporte, Stones, Danilo and Gundogan playing sideways and backwards passes to each other.

Fine, we didn't play well but the context was it was a largely meaningless game where we had 3rd string players on. We also just went through a period of winning twice against Arsenal, winning a cup and winning against Chelsea.

One loss and posters are on the match thread and on here calling players like Jesus as shit.

I agree with that part though. Its pathetic to use such words for ure own players.

Dead rubber and a team trying to get to know one another a 17 year old and a once great but ring rusty player in midfield.

The pluses are Game time for those who need it and a rest for those that deserved it before the final push.

Meaningless game maybe, but a lot of people had paid good money to watch it and they were short changed.

When you put out young and inexperienced players you need your senior players to step up and they didn't.

Yaya, Gundogan and Danilo were dreadful and I suspect a better keeper would not have been beaten on his near post how ever hard the shot was.
