Basel (H) Post Match Thread

Irrelevant in the short term but play Yaya get tortoise football.

They appeared to be playing to beat their own 928 pass record and seemingly did.

Unfortunately focusing on a zillion sideways passes lost the game.

At least it may mean some of those will not be getting as many games in the league as they hoped after we win it. That would drain all the momentum from the title win.

Pep will have just discovered that and a lot of players have lost kudos with him tonight.

Our standards should be far higher than just thinking great we are through, so what if we lost.

I am pretty sure Pep will be going home tonight not happy at all with that result and performance.

I just don’t understand why we should have the mentality of throwing games.

Football is all about momentum and that game has done nothing positive for the team at all.

Winning teams don’t get tired.

You often learn more in defeat than in victory. One or two of that squad are not at the levels we have set this season. I know it’s hard when you are 4 up but one or two really put in poor performances tonight and a couple looked a bit disinterested second half. I’m a fan but I don’t know what’s happened to Stones - looks like Bravo last season - got the serious jitters. Onwards and upwards.

Shocking.

Zinchenko, Danilo and Stones, there are no words.

Have to agree with that.

Great that we are through but my word Danilo and Zinchenko are a total liability. I lost count how many times they gave the ball away stupidly. I know the result hardly mattered and we qualified anyway but fuck me.... and Toure may as well not have been on the pitch at all as well.

Saying that B.Silva, Foden and Diaz in particular were great to watch.

I know we are through and at the end of the day that's all that counts but you cant deny that second half performance was dire. We gave the ball away so much and when we did have it all we did was make 10 feet square passes. I cant recall a single effort on goal in that half. I know it doesn't matter but it it still hurts. First home loss since December 2016 and it simply shouldn't have happened.
Losing always hurts mate . Home record gone quite cheaply imo but hey we are through .

It was a dead rubber basically, but it was a chance for players to show and push for a place in the first team, which they didn’t take bar sane and b.silva and g.jesus getting a goal it was poor from the rest of them, hopefully a decent draw with first leg away ...

Whole back 4 plus Gundo Yaya Jesus, shite. Garbage performance.

But fans booing ?

I had a ticket & couldn't go, but was that really City fans, & not the whereverthyrefroms taking the piss ?

If it was, then perhaps, like the day when I gave up smoking, I might have finally found the moment to quit.
Laporte was pretty good

Foden, Sane, Brahim the only positives.

Laporte did well but then decided not to bother trying to block the shot on the 2nd goal.

Doesn't matter really but the lack of urgency and balls by half the team still disappointing

It was a game pretty much already won and all we wanted to do was get through without injuries and give some minutes to fringe players, kids and Jesus. Objectives achieved.

Wasn't the best watch obviously but Sane, Gundogan and Silva all did ok and a nice cameo from Diaz but really we just played it as a training match.

Far from a decent performance but the fans booing our team was pretty surreal.

No Kevin, no Spanish Dave, no Nico or Sterling or Kun or Eddie.

Despite this we're through to the quarter finals of the Champions League.

I'm happy.

The fact that pep got in Tosin, showed he was ok with it ...disappointed sure , but we go thru
