I loved Suicide and think Vega is a genius, but this thread is about comparing a truly great punk band with a very mediocre Beatles tribute act,so you are simply wrong.

Mediocre Beatles tribute act????

Oh.. for a minute there I thought you meant Suicide! :)

I don't think the Clash were truly great - Just like the Pistols, they were newsworthy and that's about it.

There again, after I saw Television / Ramones etc I didn't think any British 'punk' band was particularly good.

I know I'm probably in a minority with that on here, but I'm just a Yankophile when it comes to music.

I'm with you on Television/Ramones/Stooges/Patti Smith/Sonic Youth and a whole lot more seminal US bands, but Oasis aren't even the best band from Burnage!

Jeez Nij, any more of this and we may become buddies!

It's still Oasis ;)

-- Mon Aug 20, 2012 9:09 pm --

I was there - The Clash were a tame 'punk' band and massively overrated. Joe Strummer what an angry young man. Dick.

Oasis win this leg by a million miles.

I was there too,and you are an utter clown.
The Clash.

They were OK in a little room. When it came to the big show, they were weedy. Were you at the Apollo when Suicide blew them offstage circa 1977/8? Suicide may not have been too popular with the locals but they taught the Clash a lesson in stage presence and VOLUME!

A Canadian!!! Which one are you hey? Terence or Philip?

Belle Vue - early days 77ish... A good night, not a full house as I recall, lots of excitable youths wondering how to be punks (mixture of flares, thin ties and spiky hair). I may be mistaken - It was a long time ago. The Clash were never more than average - My opinion, that's all.

Re: Battle of the Bands - The Clash v Oasis page 25

I like Oasis. Whats not to like about Noel and Liam at there best but against the Clash?

If justice is done its a three way final with the central characters being Weller,Morrissey and Joe Strummer.

This is the most important Band in my lifetime.

Re: Battle of the Bands - The Clash v Oasis page 25

Oasis, I quite liked the Clash and Strummer but nowhere near as good as Oasis.
