What The Beatles did with music and technology, people like Karlheinz Stockhausen had been doing since the 1950's. All The Beatles did was bring it to the masses. There would be no "Tomorrow Never Knows" and much of their later album material if it weren't for these composers like Stockhausen. Taste obviously plays a part, but what The Beatles did for music, technology, culture and the world in general can't be surpassed by any other band.
