Sorry to hijack this thread but can anyone tell me the definition of a 'Premium Lager' and what would be a good one to buy as a Christmas present ?

Thanks
Strongbow.

I trust you but fear you may be biased.

Premium lager is a marketing term sometimes used by brewers for products they wish to promote; there is no legal definition for such a product, but it is usually applied to an all malt product of around 5% abv.

Joking aside, if you have any specialist beer shops near you, then go and have a gander in there. Bottle Stop in Bramhall is an absolute booze heaven.

I can heartily recommend a good Kolsch (sp) - a rather nice beer from Cologne (the place, it's not made of aftershave). Only thing is you'd have to get creative yourself in terms of gift wrapping it as it's not a service they offer.

Samual Adams lager, ice cold, served in a glass that has been in the freezer for 20 mins is also a rather nice tipple.

But don't mention this to any of the good folk in Hereford or Clonmel - I'll be hung for treason.
