Bayern v City post match thread

A great win and wasn't garcia immense, he bossed the midfield with a tweak of his tash and a flick of his hair, nobody could get near him...
Bring on barca...

Just a bit over the top don't you think, the result was great and we took our goals well, but my only concern is the overall performance, and are we just getting a bit carried away, we have player a lot better than this this season and lost, but the win will do the lads a power of good, not only in the league but the CL as well, we will have to play a lot better than this if we are to go through in our next game, whoever we play we can't play as bad as we did in that first half, if last night was a knockout game don't think we would have won, i just think Bayern took it easy in the second half and paid the price, but we did play better in that second half as well, my overall view is that we were through and it didn't matter as much as this weekend's game against Arsenal, now it's all about who we get in the knockout stage.

What about city's first 20 minutes .. did they took it too easy ? Sloppy defending ? No pressing ?

When Bayern don't play well it's "oh they are not being themselves".

When City don't play well "they are shit, typical city".

Totalfootball,

Typical City now is good football not like it used to be, but can you honestly say we played really well, Bayern don't forget are the Champions and are top of the league in Germany, and are favourites for this CL again this season, so to beat them on their own ground is nothing short of brilliant, it's just that the performance wasn't all that good, and it wasn't all that good from Bayern either, they won't win anything playing like that, only time will tell if it was them turning off or us stopping them from playing in that second half, i know we can do much better than we did, so to win was great but that performance was not typical of City this season, even when we have lost away we have played better from start to finish.

I'm trying to calm down and think rationally about last night and what it actually means.

We “rested” seven players, brought our best mid-fielder back to “get match fit” for Sunday, stood back and watched along with our defence, and went two down in 12 minutes. Then we started to play and Silva was the best player on the field, Navas outshone Ribery, Zaba didn't give Ribery a kick, Milner was fantastic, Garcia had an excellent game as did Kolarov and Fernandinho was brilliant and Dzeko held the ball up well and gave Dante and Boateng a hard time. I think we can think again about our strength in depth. Our squad, as a whole, is as strong as any. Pellers also put an extra man in midfield, and once we decided defending was a good idea, we looked much more solid for it. For me this vindicates his decision not to risk Aguero and move back to 4-2-2-2, rather than any fatuous nonsense about “pouring forward” to get a fourth goal. We saw what happened to trying to “pour forward” against Munich in September.

We have all said we are one of the best teams in Europe, but then have talked in awed tones about Bayern, their impressive record, their long unbeaten run, their invincibility at home, the genius which is Guardiola – all of which is true, but we were almost at the point where a win was an “honourable” defeat! But let's shut up now and just remember the we are one of the best in Europe. WE CAN BEAT ANYONE.

There is no magic in any club badge. Even the best teams have weaknesses. Boateng did not undergo some metamorphosis when he pulled on the Bayern shirt, to become a flawless CD. Dante looked uncomfortable all night. Bayern, who look imperious with the ball at their feet and on the front foot, looked very uncertain and error prone when we had the ball, especially when it was at Merlin's feet, and they looked near to panic at times when they had to face their own goal. Navas got them to face their own goal for two of our scores: Zaba made sure Ribery never did this. We capitalised on this 3 times and the beast nearly made it four. Boateng and Dante were as poor all night as our CDs had been in the first 10 minutes. When they outnumber you in midfield Bayern are excellent: when they don't they struggle, especially against a Silva-inspired team.

You can never guarantee a win in Munich (the offside law seems to vary at different ends of the ground for one thing), but with the right formation, and our players, we showed that you can never bet against it either. We restored our reputation and credibility after the debacle in September, that's for sure.

Just saw RagSportsNews reporting with glee about what may have happened and completely glossing over the win against the best club side in the world.

They then moved on by saying "Utd, unlike City who dont finish top..."

Fuck me they are utter cunts!!

Just back. Fucking rough. Shakes and everyfing innit. Milner was superb. Kolarov was beyond superb. Ferni's world class. Garcia really quite decent if you tell him just to sit beside the center backs. Sadly we should sell Richards, being a massive blue and all that doesn't hide the fact he's a perma crock. Want to see a Argie or Spaingie replace him.

Best game in a long while. Should tell him he's captain, even if he isn't, when he plays.

In terms of creating chances and scoring goals we did well.

We exposed their defence. Boateng and Dante aren't world-class defenders. Now everybody knows that Bayern aren't invincible.
.
LOL @ UEFA listing Dante as one of the best defenders in the world.

He's been class this season in fairness, remember the panic on here before the derby and Valencia was going to rip him a new one? he seems to have found a yard of pace and a set of balls.

I dont understand all the fuss, especially on SKySports about what Pelle said. Remember English isnt his first language...and if he had brought Aguero on its still not certain that he would score.

One special mention has to go to Geoff Stelling.

What a snide this guy is. He was loving it right after the Pellegrini interview.

Genuinely despise the man

Oh aye, I agree. Just thought he looked extra solid at the back last night,

Not at all sure about that.

Result: 2-4
Teams in question: City and Bayern, both on 15pts
a) 3pts each from the two head-to-head games
b) Both have 0 goal difference from the two head-to-head games
c) Both have scored 5 goals in the two head-to-head games
d) City top Bayern on away goals, 4 vs 3

It is not absolutely clear what "the teams in question" means. If it means all teams in the group, then a) is redundant. Or put another way, a) is the primary criterion for deciding ALL positions in the group and the above are the criteria for deciding all positions in the group

Superbly Summarised.

In short, Pellegrini didn't understand, however we had no certainty we'd have scored another even if we'd have tried. Also it would have been horrific if Aguero had come on and got injured.

What would have been really funny though would have been if we'd have got the 4th goal and neither ourselves or Bayern realised that we would win the group.

Bayern would have been defending like fuck, just kicking the ball away whilst we'd have still been attacking like our lives depended on it. Picture the scene at Full Time when reality would have kicked in for Bayern; it would have been akin to 11 Phil 'Gormless' Jones post Sunderland; Priceless!

Tbh i think Bayern knew that we would top the group if we had won 4-2. It was evident with the worried look on their faces and them subsituting their only striker with a midfielder. That muller was also time wasting 10mins from the end.

Imagine the reaction had Negredo nicked a fourth goal. The Bayern players would be burying their heads in the ground and the crowd shell shocked. while Negredo runs back to the centre circle with the ball. " whats wrong guys? We need another goal. Hurry up and restart the games you twats"

The Bayern players knew. I do not really understand why the ManCity players did not. That there is always somebody on the pitch that does not understand the rules - yes, some footballers aren't picked for their smartness. After the Dortmund match Sahin and Großkreutz told in an interview last week that they had to ask Kehl if it is enough, too. Why I mention this - where was the communication in the team? I am pretty sure e.g. Demichelis knew it, too.

But that influenced the match a lot. Bayern started the match great - and then lost the tension. The 2:1 was not really bothering - but it got strange with the penalty after the break. In a normal match they would have just gotten back in gear and gone for the next goal - but as this result already was dangerous they did not.

The substituting Mandzukic vor Shaqiri had nothing to do with the scenario. That is a normal change at Bayern - even when the offensive is in full gear. Mandzu even often tackles near the other box. Shaq was out because of an injury for 2 months and needs match time.

I have never liked him. He has been sniping at us for years. I can only think that someone at the club personally offended him or that he masks his love of teh Rags with his support of Hartlepool.

His sniping obviously had little effect on me though as I am still grinning :)
