the reaction by city fans on this thread is so ridiculous. not because you won or that it wasn't a fine achievement (because it was) - but because every time a gooner has mentioned our game against bayern last season when we beat them 2-0, almost every city fan responded with the same comments - that the win doesn't really count and can't be taken seriously as it was a meaningless game for bayen/bayern were already through/bayern didn't take the game seriously/bayern were just going through the motions etc etc.

the fact is that if we had scored 1 more goal which we almost did, we'd have gone through the knockout tie so it wasn't as meaningless as people suggest.

it's funny how when arsenal did it, numerous city fans tried to discredit the achievement using the above reasons/excuses at to why we won.

funny how those exact same reasons/excuses can be levelled against you tonight but that hasn't stopped all of you being really happy and over-joyed like you've just won the champions league.

my point - don't knock other teams achievements and their fans reactions then behave in exactly the same way when you do it.
bottom line - your totally right to be really happy as you've just beaten the best team in the world in their own back yard - exactly the same as we did last season.

My point is we'll say what we fucking like on our own forum. Cheeky t**T.
you're far too nice mate.

it's just banter I think mostly, especially in the light of Gooner bringing it out repeatedly as evidence for how brilliant you are and how you're better than the rest, so I think it's partly a reaction to that, and partly a reaction to the fact that we play you on Saturday so we're not going to be as kind as we were back in the early months of the season, this is a huge boost to us tonight and has got the juices flowing.

that gooner guys an embarrassing idiot!

but even months ago, when we weren't due to play each other so shortly, any mention of our win at bayern got the same reaction from city fans, basically trying to discredit the win.

but anyway, yes it does fire you up nicely for saturday although i really don't think it will make any difference.

in recent years i really think the city/arsenal games have been amongst the highest quality games in the league. i honestly thing that arsenal generally give you your hardest game of the season at the etihad. we are one of the few teams (in fact probably only team) that doesn't roll over up there.

i think regardless of your result tonight and our result 2moro, this game would have been lit anyway!

Proud tonight. I think what made it sweeter is that it was the players who normally get it in the neck that did the business. So Joleon, Javi, James, Edin and every one else on the pitch tonight. Take a bow. Result of the season so far.

To be fair mate it is city forum and they have right to knock our achivements if they wish. its their gorum. I am confident in our form and our season. top of league and top of champions league show that. Game on saturday going to be massive between two great football clubs. If we win though i think they might change their minds about how good we are.

some nice words from Pep tonight reported by Goal

"I think it is something we have to know - that we can lose," Guardiola told reporters after the match. "Opponents have good players and coaches too. It is always difficult.

"But we started very well and for the first 30 minutes we were very good. Later we had to use the ball better and use our counterattacks. Manchester City are a good team and you have to have more than just possession.

"Congratulations to Manchester City on this great victory. Sometimes you need to lose a game. In the Bundesliga we have won everything, in Manchester we won 3-1, but now we lost and have to cope with that. But we're already looking ahead to next week in Marrakech [for the Club World Cup]."

Bayern finish top of the group despite the defeat to Manuel Pellegrini's men and Guardiola believes his side should be congratulated on their performances during the group stage.

"In the first half we did not make many mistakes, but during the first 10 minutes of the second half we did not play very well. In general we are satisfied," he said. "We met a great team in the group phase; Manchester City played quite well tonight.

"I congratulate the players on their success and I hope we understand now how difficult it is to play in Europe. We did not always have the right player in the right place on the pitch. We have to work on this – that is the lesson we learned today."

Class from Pep.

completely normal, i said as much in my post.

my point was that maybe all those city fans that kept knocking our achievement of beating bayern away were maybe wrong? as now you've done the same thing and are reacting in the same way as the arsenal fans you mocked...this is nothing to do with being a city forum or not, its more to do with the human thought process maybe...

Fantastic performance from us. Shows just what depth we have in the squad and what depth of character we have. Would've been easy to go thru the motions at 2 nil down and let the game fizzle out but the boys showed the self belief of champions.

I'd keep Hart in for Saturday

Did ye do it with mostly your second string?
And did ye give them a two goal start.
No, ye didn't.
Yours was a great night for ye, no doubt.
Just as tonight was for us.
The circumstances of both victories were not the same, though.

Also, there's a certain sense or feeling amongst us lot that tonight has been to some extent, at least, a "coming of age" (for want of a less cheesy phrase) in Europe for this group of players.
So, again, not at all the same.

Still, it's all about Arsenal, isn't it? Mods, lock this thread! Everybody, to the Arsenal thread! Where we can ignore tonight's result. And talk about Arsenal!
