Bayern v City (Post Match)

i had to watch it on my phone, but Yaya looked rather slim compared to last season? or is it just my phones small screen making him slimline?
He did but he wasn't terribly more mobile than last season. Well it is pre season and apparently team had a training session in the morning before the match.

I don't think that playing motm performances week in week out then finally, much too late, getting on the bench of the first team, then being left watching as people such as Manu Garcia, who struggled to even get in the kids team with Barker, were fast tracked straight onto the pitch at the Etihad, helped him one bit.

But the fact is, he was better at 17 than anything the ofher attackiing kids produced last night, & miles miles better than the player we are seeing now. Whether Pep can get that back, or shethrr like Gareth Bale, it's just an age thing he will come through, I don't know. But it's not looking great. Tbf, he did ok, but he's just 'done a job' tracking back etc & done nothing in attack.

That's not the player we watched every week.
Only seen Barker play twice plus a few times on TV so can't give an expert opinion. However, to me he just lacks something and will end up falling short of the mark. Not sure you can blame Pellers for his lack of development because he never seemed up to holding down a first team place. There is something about his body language and work ethic that makes it highly unlikely Pep will spend to much time trying to improve the guy. No doubt there is a good player in there somewhere but I think it's odds on he will be off on a loan after the tour.

There was a time when the club used to help kids rather than just expect them to do it for themselves. Down to thd fact that most will fuck up unless that happens.
I would argue differently. It seems to me that they get far too much help these days. At the end of the day if they are good enough they will be able to do it for themselves.

Also, sadly last night showed that Bony, Fernando & Delph are still way off and Toure may just not have it anymore.
Last night showed the opposite of this. Fernando did more than his job and Delph in particular was excellent.

If you believe McMinimum yes. I'll take my own view point.
Fernando still far too poor in possession and Delph is too headless chicken.

I like Delph but he needs to learn how to play at this level. He still tries to play like he's at Villa.

Haha, so because my opinion is different to yours it must not be my own?
Trouble is, some people make their minds up and wont change them. If Bony scored a hat-trick in ten minutes against a full-strength Barcelona some people on here would be complaining that he didn't fulfil his defensive duties.

I was literally stunned at what McPointy was saying.
You could clearly hear Pep screaming at Delph as he kept leaving his position. Is Pep wrong too?

I like Delph, if he learns he could be a very useful player. But all action chase down dead ends is not what we're looking for.

I have time for Fernando, but for me his passing is below the standard required, he doesn't offer himself enough for the ball and too often leaves his position and is wrong side of the play. I imagine this is where the nickname came from.
You don't need to be an octopus if you're right side of the ball and man.

You haven't been a member long, but my post history is littered with me supporting all our players.
Some sadly as with all clubs will not measure up.

You're laying all the blame on Pellegrini as usual, but we don't know whats going on. Perhaps it should be on Barker just as much?

There's been quite a few posters who've said they've heard his attitude isn't right, and his form dropped off immediately after he was given his new contract in 2015. Wouldn't be the first kid to lose his way after signing his first big deal.

Like you said - all the other kids have managed to retain their promise and spark - only Barker seems to have been affected. Bit odd that isn't it?

On top of that- Pep is here now, Barker has played with him for 2 weeks. The slate is wiped clean, the kids are getting a chance. So why did Barker still look so disinterested in the game? Why is he still happy to sit on the fringes while the game passes him by, instead of going looking for the ball, like Bytyqi did? Why does he look so fucking miserable when he's playing for the first team against Bayern Munich, while Tosin, Maffeo and Angelino look like it's the best day of their lives?

Perhaps Pellegrini was right to not play him, perhaps there was a good reason why it was Barker who was left out of the starting lineup in the FA Cup. There are hundreds of kids who look promising at 17/18 and never make it into the first team, even at clubs where the managers always develop the youth players well.

The man didn't utilise the youth we had at our disposal very well, but not everything is Pellegrini's fault - and I don't see any evidence that Barker not living up to his early potential should be laid at exclusively at Pellegrini's door.

Actually the people complaining about his 'attitude' have largely just made it up & actually know fuck all.

The best kids last night, for the most part, were the ones who have spent the most time away from Pellegrini.

And Barker didn't look 'disinterested' last night. That's a dreadfully unfair accusation based purely on his style of movement. What he did look, was not confident to create.

They used to be brought into the first team squad & encouraged to 'have a go' in the team & the fans were right behind it encouraging them. Not really been the case for years. Hopefully it will happen like that from now on.

Another great day out in Munich. Started in the Augustiner beer garden, as usual, with @JC2 and the lads. Got to meet Aussie blue, @billymumphrey, too. The problems started when we got the train from Marienplatz to the stadium. The train was full to bursting and stopped for about 10 minutes at each stop, until it stopped in the middle of nowhere for about 20 minutes. The sweat was lashing off us at this point, then suddenly the doors opened and everyone got off the train, in between two stations! We helped a few older people off the train, then followed the crowd to the stadium - on foot! Missed the whole of the first half as I didn't get inside until half time. My ticket was for block 126, and I think they let too many people in as the stairs/fire exits were crammed full. Any way, had been promised a lift back to Innsbruck straight after the game, which I politely accepted. The car was in the multi-storey car park near the ground, and it then took us an hour just to get out of the car park. Pissed off that I missed most of the game, but the ticket only cost me €15 plus the €8 bus ride from Innsbruck, so it's not too bad. Next time, I think I'll head to the stadium much earlier!

Very excited for the next game. Reckon it's too early for the pre-match thread? Just kidding.
In all seriousness though, after such a good showing against Bayern Munich I'm not exactly terrified by United. Also think any player in the squad who weren't used last night will probably get decent minutes on Monday, and then only three days until Dortmund... feels like ages since I got a City game as a birthday present :)

Watched the match replay last night and while I hate to read too much into just the first preseason friendly, there can be no denying that what people are saying is true. The kit definitely looks like pajamas.

Well atleast it's not pink or purple.

I often think that it is very difficult to judge players as a whole as the match is much more complex than we often remark. It is not only about the minute a player has the ball every match but a lot about right positioning and doing the right runs, about giving cover or providing cover shadows, about so much things you only can recognize when you watch a match very slowly.

The guy who had the better passing might have made it a lot more difficult for his fellow because of his wrong positioning...

Delph looked decent when he came on but he has a lot to learn in how to play the way Pep likes. Fernando is going to struggle to get a place unless he really sharpens up. Tosin and Angelino look like they are ready for the step up, solid performances from them both.

Why we are after Stones for over £50m when we have a lad like Adaribiyo progressing through the ranks is beyond me , also remember dinho filling in at centre back last season and he looked very comfortable in that position , maybe Pep could develop dinho along the lines of Mascherano at Barca . Angelino was superb , a star for the future under Peps guidance , you could see Peps influence on the performance/ tactics and his enthusiasm and passion on the bench is a refreshing change from MP sitting on his backside watching the world go by. Bring on the Rags with the "special one" and "god" amongst their number , but is it worth turning up , surely a no contest. There again we have got jesus on the wing , so we might be able to keep the score respectable

Very pleased with most aspects of last nights game.
Think that we don't really need another experienced keeper just yet, our Spanish FB's both showed skill and hunger.
Zinchenko looked a bit lost at times but I suppose that is understandable and Barker looks like he needs some intense one to one coaching but I've just got a feeling that the club are desperate for him to succeed and he'll be given every chance.
The experienced players mostly just use such games for fitness and sharpness exercises. I don't want them to be hitting a peak in mid August as it's a long, hard season ahead.
