Bayern v Napoli

A draw means if we beat Villarreal and Napoli we still go through with the chance to beat bayern to top it.

A Napoli loss puts us in the same situation except we'd have to beat bayern better than 2-0 since it would go to heads up.

100% draw is best.

Ys but if we draw and Napoli draw then that means we need to win at Napoli whereas if we draw and they lose then we may need only a score draw at Napoli then beat a Bayern team missing some of their stars. We may not even need to beat Bayern as Napoli winning at Villarreal is no certainty.

A Bayern win is absolutely the best result for us by a mile.

Getting through is the priority. Topping the group is a bonus.

I never have seen a Bayern team missing some stars playing in a Champions League game... Even 2.5 years ago in March 2009, when they won 5:0 in Lissabon and then played at home, they did not let a B-Team play. The only special on this was that they let an amateur have his fun with his first 18 minutes CL at 4:1...

Actually in big parts it is the same team that e.g. won the last 2 games against Turkey and Belgium in the Euro12-qualification even if it did not matter anymore for them. They have been in the same situation then...

The 5-year-ranking is an important thing in Germany, as we just got back the 4 starting places for the Champions League.

And you might be surprised that in that case to have an Alaba play instead of a Ribery might not be too much difference in quality... ;) or a Contento, that already played a couple of CL games including two semi finals, who just sits on the bench right now, because Lahm has changed sides. (especially not Diego Armando Contento, a son of immigrants from Napoli, that lives in a house full of fan stuff of the SSC Napoli and who's familiy's dog is names Lavezzi - he`d be 1000% motivated if he could help Napoli)

I just want to prepare you that Bayern will not take a game easily and give it away because of already being qualified, like a premier league team might do it.

Everyone's assuming Bayern are going through.

Consider this..

Napoli shock win at Bayern (could happen)
City win at Villarreal (should happen)
City draw with Napoli (suits both teams)
Bayern beat Villarreal (should happen)
City beat Bayern (I'd back us in this one)
Napoli beat Villarreal (should happen)

Napoli 12
City 11

Bayern in the Europa.

Happy days.

and dont forget we need to win tonight, no easy task as we have been struggling in europe away.

Yeah, we struggled in our one match against one of europes elite, therefore our form is really dire
Salzburg 2-0 win
Poznan 3-1 defeat
Juventus 1-1
Aris 0-0
Kyiv 2-0 defeat
(we were awful in all but the Salzburg game)
Bayern 2-0 defeat
plus only three away wins against top half Premier Lg teams in 14months.

Yes, we are much better this season but we still have a lot to improve on. In the CL we look very naive and quite nervous (this in our home games as well as the one away game we've played).

We have put a few wrongs right this season (beating Spurs, Everton, scoring more goals, scoring late goals, coming from behind to win, winning at a big club's ground). What we still need to put right is our European away form.

Different competitions, different squad, different season. Dont see how our away form can be considered poor given these factors.

Bayern win.

Our progress will come down to Napoli away

-- Wed Nov 02, 2011 3:42 pm --

i might have misread it but your scenario has us in a must win game against Bayern. I'd rather we had to beat Napoli

At this stage all i'm worried about is qualifying for the knockout stages. Be it through winning the group or being runners up, as of right now and our position, i couldn't care less.

Sure Napoli could win at Bayern. Every match day is a new task and games do not work as planned. But do you really think that Villarreal will give away every game at home in front of their own people if they have not lost any game in their stadium in international games for years apart from the loss against Bayern? In your plan everything runs so smooth.

Bayern has caught 4 goals this season in 18 games. 1 at home in the very first game due to a misunderstanding. They have a home sheet of 33:1 in the last 9 games or a 33:0 in the last 8 home games.

The 4 goals were 2 own goals, one goal that was a near own goal and a misunderstanding in a new formed defense in the first game. They hardly got any shot on the target.

Bayern does not underestimate Napoli. The draw in Napoli - even if it was caused by an own goal and a not shot penalty goal - was hard work. They had the offense of the Naples player in control - they never got dangerous - but with the help of the referee and falling on every little contact they destroyed the attack of Bayern pretty well. The referee tonight is from the Netherlands. That is no good sign as Bayern and the Netherlands soccer association are not really on a friendly.

But - actually Bayern is through the group stages when you do not win tonight and Bayern wins. Then Bayern has their 10 points and you and Napoli can best make it on max. 8 without the game between you and Naples. And then either you or Naples could get first or second - not both.
