BBC licence fee

The link shows most of Europe doesn't, around 2/3rds doesn't.

No sorry you're sentiment is wrong.

By population most of Europe (I'm deliberately excluding the oligarch state) has some form of licensing. Whether that is combined with state grants or part advertising is a different issue.

Only Luxembourg and other microstates have commercial only, I'll leave you to draw your own conclusion on why you sensible countries fund public service broadcasting.

Might have already posted this, but the amount BBC spent on IT contractors I.e. project managers developers was a joke. Worked for BBC in 2015. Fuck me they were paying 800 a day for Project managers working 10 to 4pm in white city. And they took the piss. Made me quit, morally was wrong knowing that it was funded by the general public.

Fuck BBC.

Interesting that this is in the politics section.

my main issue with the BBC is paying lineker millions to do a job they could have someone do for a fraction of the cost.

You do realise that an unfunded BBC will be a smaller BBC - if you want to replace anything you have lost it will not be free. The net result it will be pay more get less. Old people won't face a theoretical fine or imprisonment but will face their dotage with very little audio or visual entertainment unless they can afford to pay through the nose for it - everyone will get less access to news coverage too - wonder why that would suit a government?

And tell you what if the BBC becomes subscription only then they will apply that to radio too. When that happens other entities like Global will think " well hey we aren't putting out for free " and introduce a subscription too.

iPlayer, All4 any currently free to access catchup TV service will be too.......all will be fine it will be just what few services do you want for £20 per month

I'm aware and I don't care. Don't watch BBC. Barely watch terrestrial TV to start with but because I own a TV I have to pay a fucking tax or start having threatening letters and the bully men knocking on my door. The BBC won't die due to the loss of the license fee. If it results in a smaller BBC then so be it. They can start cutting the fat and spend within their means instead of having the populace fund their ridiculous spending.

You don't have to pay it because you own a TV, you have to pay it if you watch live TV.

Yes but that covers other channels not the BBC and even if you use online TV services like ITV hub, Sky Go etc. I suggest you watch some videos online of people who have TV's but don't watch TV live. They send none stop threatening letters and send the bully men around to "inspect" your house to make sure you can't watch live TV. They rely on bully boy tactics and harassment so you end up paying as it's easier than the harassment.

They can fuck off and my generation and generations younger find it a completely archaic concept and the sooner it is scrapped the better.
