BBC licence fee

Absolutely. People should not be forced to pay for entertainment that is of no interest them. Make the advertise like the other channels if they wish to continue.

Other than Freeview ( fine if you like The Saint, Minder, Dickinsons Real Deal and other quality TV can you tell me of a platform that doesn't charge a fee as well as get advertising revenue? Sky? Netflix?

My prediction, we’ll end up with a British Fox News equivalent and the lefties on here will be crying and asking why it happened.
You could be right, another channel may pop up. Lefties love anything anti British, what could be better for them than the prospect of iconic British music,
that celebrates the country, being scrapped from the proms? The conductor is a Finnish woman, who says whilst there are no people it's a 'Perfect time to bring change.' So we have a foreigner, at one of our major cultural events dictating to us about how we shouldn't be listening to our own anthems, which seems fine for the BBC. Which other foreign broadcasters would do anything like this, and which countries would accept their national anthems being sneered at like this, does anyone think the French, or Americans would put up with it? No chance, yet this organisation appears to have no problem deliberately infuriating their customers, because they have no choice but to pay them.

Deport her.

If you're infuriated by the BBC not singing the words to land of hope and glory and/or Finnish conductors, you've got much bigger problems than paying the licence fee.

He’s not necessarily infuriated, he may think negatively of the situation at the BBC, as many do, but negative thoughts aren’t necessarily infuriation. It’s possible he finds it laughable or mildly disappointing but whatever the negative feeling it is, I’ve decided I won’t pay my licence fee next year when it’s up for renewal.

The complaint is actually illustrative of the ignorance in play here. Music is an international genre - the Promenade concerts have a long tradition of guesting conductors, soloists, vocalists from around the globe and they, more often than not, decide what music will be played.

The ultimate destination of the Little Englander mentality will be that we end up trying to get a soloist to play from say Greece but only the music we want them to play not the piece they are most famous for or most accomplished at and they will just decline. You'll end up with Rule Brittania being played on the last night by the Sleaford Mods or similar as the only English band they can hire.

I am sure the Mods would make a good fist of things but I doubt that will be what the gammon and hoorays are quite what they expect.

Because we have real, difficult and intractable problems to resolve, Brexit, Covid, getting children back to school safely, etc and these all require practical solutions, planning and so on; whereas what you want is the emotional comfort of made up problems like songs at the Proms where you can talk endlessly about the war on English culture or Christmas and feel vindicated when the make believe problem never materialises.

It‘s right wing porn for the emotionally stunted. In America it got you a culture war on masks and nigh on 180,000 dead as Fox News repeated the message that the virus was a Democrat hoax.

But, hey, knock yourselves out. Let’s have a channel which pretends all world leaders are Satanic pedos, alien spacecrafts are real, and the virus is a hoax/bio weapon/an agent of God - depending on what day of the week it is.

If you're happy with a random foreigner's political views being used by the national broadcaster to make a change that she wants, not us, then no wonder we have problems.

Neither song is not being played and were never not going to be played and yet another story is written to create disharmony amongst the population. Forget the BBC, doesn’t that bother you at all?

Magnificent stuff.

Meanwhile on Bluemoon a few are not taking it all that well...

The BBC said it wants to be more representative of the country and that's why, despite having to make large cuts, it has pledged £100M in order to boost representation of on-screen minority groups (who are already over-represented on TV), but removing the lyrics from Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory flies in the face of what the vast majority of the population of this country, judging by the landslide Tory victory in 2019 who - whether you voted for them or not - played on national pride and British sovereignty in order to get votes.

I'm not quite sure how the BBC can consider itself to be 'representative' and judging by the PM's comments today, might find itself in serious danger of losing its public money come 2022 when there's a review.

They’re not getting another penny from me regardless.

Sad cunts.

Trying to ban it is left wing porn for the self-hating saddo.

You can talk about many issues at once, if Covid-19, Brexit and the other things you mentioned are that important why are the left trying to ban songs?

It’s a childish comment but the right can reasonably say “you started it” here.

I'm sorry ????? The campaign slogan wasn't " Get Brexit Done" but rather " lets save Rule Brittannia and Land of Hope and Glory" ??? Ha ha ha Neither were even mentioned - where are your facts to support such a ridiculous statement?

Are you forced to subscribe to Netflix? Is it illegal to not sign up and pay for Disney+ ?

No. Forcing people to pay for something that is of little interest to them is the issue here. Having a law forcing people to pay for a few channels is ludicrous. Imagine if C4 or C5 tried to do similar Nothing? Would you be willing to pay for that too?

And refering to the shite on the BBC as 'quality TV is laughable. Nothing worse than BBC News these days for biased journalism and shite programs I have no interest in.

This is the most wonderfully, spectacularly idiotic thing I’ve read in ages. Thank you.

Iv said it before and will repeat again. Those who give in to pay TV license are being duped. Here in NL BBC is free to watch. Yet in UK u lot gotta pay. Don't make any sense. Ditch the license.

If you think using the recent election landslide as a proxy for judging the national mood is idiotic then it's probably the only thing you've read in ages.

Now scutter off.
