BBC pundits' title predictions

bsica
I can't fathom why the two Manchester clubs are the outstanding favourites with the bookmakers. Whilst Pep and Mourinho are widely considered to be two of the best managers in today's game, Chelsea will be reinvigorated under Conte, and Arsenal and Spurs finished above us last season.

Basically city were favs to start because of there squad and getting pep early then when the rags got maureen all the vermain come out and bk them pushing the price down!

Tottenham won't be within 15 points of the title winners.

32 pundits. What the fuck for?

Wondered where the licence money was going
30 to cover the rags and 2 for the other 19 clubs going by their website. I wouldn't mind if they just left Sinclair doing our stuff.

Danny Mills, does anyone take the clown seriously?

Trevor Sinclair backing the Rags surprises, and disappoints,me.

Why? It's who do you think will win not who do you want to win. Isn't a blue allowed an opinion?

I think the rags will win the next two seasons and then we will take over for a very long time.

Funny, Danny Murphy just on talksport talking up Chelsea as his choice for the title where he has tipped City on BBC. Maybe of they go around different media outlets saying different teams thinking they will get at least one right.

I am not alone in detecting a bit of bias from Mr Mills but to be fair he does say "This season depends on how quickly they settle in but Pep will win the league with City at some point - it is a question of when, not if."

It's a reasonable opinion to believe that City might struggle immediately to come to terms with Guardiola's method.

And if it were anyone else I'd take it as a reasonable opinion and respect it, however the oxygen thief has form for talking shite.

Yes. There seem to be a few ex-blues who seem to resent the fact that they were at the club when it struggled, or maybe that they knew they weren't popular and have taken it to heart.

It is significant that pundits whose career depends to an extent on being right, and the bookies whose profits depend on being right both have City as significant favourites. if I was a betting man, which I am as I made money on Stones signing, I would find the odds on Spurs winning quite tempting. I don't think they will win it, but I'd give them more than a 10% chance.

The other odds look reasonable:

City: 9/4
Utd: 3/1
Chelsea: 5/1
Arsenal: 6/1
Liverpool: 8/1
Spurs: 10/1

I think Utd and Liverpool's odds are shortened slightly to reflect the amount of money they get from their fans, and hence the losses they might incur if they win.

It's an offset book bud, they'll make between 5-10% profit whoever wins, that's how they set the odds.

Here's the list....

The Premier League starts again on Saturday, with surprise champions Leicester City defending the title they won by 10 points last season.

Who will win it this time, and how will the Foxes fare? We asked 33 BBC TV and radio pundits, presenters, journalists and commentators - and one super-computer for their one-two-three-four and an explanation of their selection.

The predictions were made on the basis of how each squad shaped up on Friday 12 August, before the opening weekend and with more than a fortnight to go before the transfer window shuts.

I hope you're wrong about the next couple of seasons ;)

I meant to say lengthened by the way for Utd and Liverpool. To reduce liabilities. Would that be right?

Look, if Spurs are 10/1 then roughly £1 in £12 has gone on spurs, meaning that if there's £12m on the book and Spurs win the title then the bookies keep £1m. If we're 9/4 they'll have a similar (maybe slightly smaller) margin on us winning, say £2 in £7 has gone on us. If we're a shorter price than the rags and liverpool, it's because they've taken more money in bets on us than on either of the above teams. The bookies don't leave themselves open to losing much money on these things.
