Agreed, I will now get a lot of abuse and totallywired will despise me even more but I think the only answer is to privatise it and remove the nazi license fee. HOWEVER if this is to be done I'm not sure how news broadcasting can remain unbiased. Perhaps the BBC News remains state owned and funded, whilst everything else is privately ran?

1. The BBC is far from unbiased when it comes to reporting news.
2. So is every other news outlet, all news has an agenda or pov.

An interesting feature of the BBC news is how often they make a news item about one of their own upcoming programmes. I'm often heard to yell towards Mrs Ewing: This isn't news it's BBC trailer time!

Or the new fashion of telling us what people are saying on Twitter!.

Who gives two shits?.

Out of interest who do you think the BBC favours?

Anything to do with the British Government or any friendly governments. Just like every other state news agency (respectively) around the world.

Bingo.

Rumour is Lineker will leave to host BT Sports CL coverage next season as well, although I don't see why he can't do both that and MOTD.

I will be disappointed if the BBC lose the Premier League highlights as I am one who enjoys looking forward to MOTD on a Saturday. It isn't perfect but it's enjoyable.

ITV is an absolute shambles when it comes to highlights, the punditry and analysis are shocking and we will inevitably have an advert break after every game highlights.

As has been pointed out, BBC are overly resourced for Outside Broadcasts in comparison to independent channels. It's not just the commentators, but production staff, researchers etc. There's a feeling within the industry that they became complacent with their ownership of the major sporting events. People involved with BSkyB couldn't believe the lack of fight to keep certain events.

At times the BBC do themselves no favours. Last weekend they had the BDO darts semi final which was a great game. Whereas BT sport showed it live and in its entirety, BBC had highlights on after 11pm. Not even the option of the red button.

My mate works in Media City and we planned to watch The Open Golf on the big screen at The Quays. Had to rearrange as unlike Wimbledon Tennis, they were not showing it. Instead they showed 24 hours rolling news.

People can criticise SKY with a degree of justification about the rising costs of watching Sport. Has to be said that SKY and other broadcasters have taken the coverage to a new level.

I completely agree about the darts - it really pissed me off that they didn't have the red button option for viewers

I really hope itv don't get motd, their coverage of football is generally terrible

Wow, would never have thought that Urmston would accuse the been of being leftist, though he probably thinks the daily mail is a trade union publication

If I wasn't forced to be a customer of the BBC just because I want to use a TV I wouldn't give my views on it.

People choose to buy all sorts of poor quality cr*p and I don't comment. I just don't buy it myself and let others get on with what pleases them.

I wish that was the situation with the BBC's sanitised and dumbed down news and the rest of its dismal output.
& no doubt because you are forced to contribute to the NHS means you hate that as well.
For BBC sport, they show some of the major Irish League finals live, some of the Ulster rugby games, and their coverage of the NW200 is superb.
As the "major" sports have became too greedy I feel that the way forward for the beeb is to show now regional sports and give a higher profile to smaller sports, I know that given the choice I would rather watch a kart race than formula one

You are comparing compulsory contributions to the health services with compulsory contributions to fund sh*te like Eastenders and the BBC's dumbed down news.

This is an argument often made by many supporters of the BBC who obviously think that provision of TV dross is as important as provision of health services, and so must be ensured by a tax backed by the criminal law just like hospitals, doctors and nurses.

There's no point arguing with people who have such a bizarre sense of values.

You may not have noticed, but your licence fee pays for much more than EastEnders and the news, local radio is great for keeping up to date on traffic and travel, TMS is one of the greatest programmes broadcast, world service for keeping up to date with things back home when away, and the website has been a blessing many times (& that is before I mention the iPlayer etc)

You have obviously noticed the internet exists as you have posted on here, so why not have a look around and see that the days of needing to get information from the BBC are long gone.

I've no problem with the BBC doing what it likes, but it should make its way selling its products to people who want to buy them.

It is silly and unnecessarily authoritarian to fund any TV programmes by a compulsory tax backed by the criminal law, and almost immoral to do it for the dross TV which comprises about 90% of the BBC's output.

I agree with urmston to some extent.

I've always thought the news coverage despite being usually accurate and conservative is pretty patronising. I get wound up sometimes with BBC Breakfast because the presenters assume that every viewer has the mentality of an 8 year old which is why I prefer channel 4 news. I also can't stand the PCness of their news coverage. I don't mind newsnight despite a lefty slant and Question time is ok.

I would like the BBC to remain in the trust's hands but they do themselves no favours. The place is one big gravy train, not only for celebs but for producers, writers, backroom staff, Director generals and middle managers. I suppose because they aren't directly accountable to any governing body and is technically seen separate from the state, they can get away with handing out huge contracts and wages.

Sat Nav, the Internet and a decent TV (which records/catch up) should cover that.
