Be Affraid. Be Very Affraid Of What Nike Will Do To City's..

Given our occasional taste for retro, have we ever tried to retro our kits from the 1976-1981 period - i.e. all blue with white diamond (or similar) trim and a wing collar? I think those kits were really popular but I don't think we have ever tried to recreate anything similar (unless perhaps the kappa kit in 1997 was in that ballpark). Would people welcome an updated version of say our 1981 Cup Final kit or one of the earlier versions with the diamonds?

Think we might be in for some trouble.
They've lifted that straight off the default backgrounds you get in Powerpoint.

i swear nike have no integrity, their aim is to drive costs as low as possible and maximise profits, whereas umbro care about the actual kit.

shame
All true unfortunately.

Nike own umbro, with a bit of luck it want be to bad.
They'll have sold off Umbro by the time our deal starts with Nike, so the kits will have no connection at all with each other. Except for the City badges!

I think with the kits being so nice this season we will sell loads plus the gold premier league badges will make them even better, So if next seasons is crap and we dont buy them they will have to sort it out. Umbro have made us some fantastic shirts over the years,if sales drop it will be noticed.

I couldn't give a toss if its Nike or Umbro , we had Italian' gara tech Kappa shirts '..." material that keeps the athlete dry by allowing the sweat to evaporate through the garment " ............. Lincoln City still twatted us though !!!!

Even if it is pish lets be honest we're still gonna buy it regardless. It'll have a City badge on and cost £50+ at the start of the season and £10 at the end.

It's funny reading this thread, we're bandying brands around the same way we do with players. Fuck Nike off and get Adidas etc.

I can remember Umbro fucking us off when we were going down the pan in the 90's (they had been making our kit since the 1930's) and the board seriously thought about making our own kit (like Wigan now). That would have been truly shit. We ended up with Kappa then LQS and we argued about the kits then too.

If you were to draw comparison between the brands we get to choose from then and now with players, it would be like having to compare Taylor, Bradbury or Conlon with Tevez, Balo and Dzeko. We're lucky really, never ended up wearing Macron or Warrier!

Didn't we fuck Umbro off in the '90's because of their obsession with United? The way I remember it is that when Umbro took over from Adidas, we were put on the back burner effort wise. Then Umbro were struggling to pay United the contracted amount so they gave United shares in Umbro. That meant that every England and City shirt sold meant money went United's way. City saw their arse with this and ended the connection.

New Porto kits are nice too - might not be as bad as we are all expecting....
