Becoming an author..

I have 2 lads aged 14-and 11 and a girl aged 5, If you want to send a sample, my wife reads to the little one each night or i will get the lads to read it and give feedback if it helps

no money in it, write it off as a bad idea

You’ll make some money but can teach, tutor, critique and freelance to get income. Adaptations are where your £££s come in.

I have work on the go. Just seeing it in print would be an achievement in itself.

I had a book published. It was a lifelong ambition but I didn't make any money out of it. Don't send your manuscript to a publisher. They have neither the time, inclination nor the staff to indulge unsolicited submissions from new authors. You need to work through an agent as publishers work through them on the basis that the agents filter out all the dross and proceed according to their recommendations. However, agents will not hesitate to bin you off and most do.

There used to be (and may well still be) a writer's annual handbook with many agents' details and various tips about submissions. The first thing to do is check out those specialising in (or at least working with) children's books and concentrate on those. You'd need to verify that they accept unsolicted submissions and exactly what they require.

Id say the age range is approx 8-11.

My sister is law is a talented artist. She said she will illustrate. She's also worked in the publishing arena and said she may have relevant contacts.

We shall see.

Thanks for the input.

Make sure the illustrations are done professionally....
