Beginning The 2025 Rebuild of City

Forget this season. If we make top 4 it will be a fuckin miracle.

We're 1pt off top 4 despite being in horrendous form so it wouldn't be a miracle. It's ridiculous how we're still so close to it considering our form. But we need to break the rot quickly. After Villa there's a run of games we have to find form and confidence in. Because we have a quite ridiculous run of games from 22nd Jan.

PSG, Chelsea, Bruges, Arsenal, Newcastle, Liverpool, Tottenham, Forest, Brighton.

If we can't piece things together during our next run of games we're in trouble.

1 - Should Pep be in charge of the rebuild? YES
2 - Which players should be moved on in 2025? WALKER, GUNDO (age), NUNES, STONES (purely fitness)
3 - Which players should be offered new contracts? HAALAND, DIAS, FODEN, GREALISH, RODRI
3b - What players should we be targeting? RB, CB, 6, 8, 8, 10
4 - Who is making the decisions for the rebuild, i.e. THE TRANSFER TEAM STARRING TXIKI AND INTRODUCING HUGO
5 - How will the 115 PL charges decision and other outside influences reflect on the rebuild. Do we wait until after the decision of the independent commission? PRESS AHEAD
6 - what sort of figures do we realistically have to spend on a rebuild? 300-400
7 - With the bad form we are in, how as fans can we help the club? NO BOOING IT DOESN'T HELP AND IT EFFECTS ALL PLAYERS NOT JUST THOSE TARGETED

Think we need to freshen the squad a little more too.

Think we will need 3 new keepers.
Ortega isn't good enough to be number 1 in my opinion and he won't want to be number 2 forever. Ederson looks like he is on a downward spiral and obviously Carson has to retire eventually.

I’d keep stones but on a incentivized contract. When fit he gets the money his ability warrants but if he isn’t fit he doesn’t. If he thinks anyone else will give him more then let him go. Too young for USA , saudi may not appeal so maybe he needs us as much as we need him?

This is the fallacy of the player that was all overthe over again. Many whined when we signed Kovacic to replace Gundo.

Pray tell, who would you pick to start for you today Gindo or kova?

Aging player are always on the downturn. Both Doku and Savio are miles better than current Mahrez.
But neither are anywhere close to prime Mahrez. An aging Mahrez needed to be replaced by someone much closer to his peak level. Even in his final year with us with reduced playing time Mahrez managed 19 goals in all comps. What are we doing here? Are you really going to disrespect Mahrez like that? Mahrez was a better player than Doku, Savio, and Grealish combined. Behave...
As for Gundo I'd prefer Barella or Bruno G. just to name a couple. You're making a point that half decent players are better than older washed up players who were once elite. C'mon mate, that's some silly shit...

If we were top of the league and in the top 8 in the CL I'd say Kovacic, Doku and Savio were great signings. But that's not the case. When Gundo and Mahrez were with us we topped the group and won the lot. The situation at the moment is exacerbated by injuries and the form we are in but you can't justify a good signing by comparing them to what older/former players would offer now.

That just highlights the issues at the club in recent windows.

We used to dine at the top table. Yaya, David Silva, Kompany, Aguero, Ferny - all key players we were uncertain could be replaced. Yet we did replace them. Not always directly, but we kept winning and by the trophies we won got even better.

De Bruyne - excellent stats at Wolfsburg and a player plenty of clubs wanted.
Bernardo - had destroyed us with Monaco in an excellent season for them and again would have had a number of suitors.
Rodri - playing at a top team in Europe, getting experience in the CL and whilst young and not the player he now is a logical signing clearly

But in recent seasons we've been buying players which don't match our profile.

Doku - pretty poor attacking stats and not a player that fit our style.
Nunes - hadn't progressed from the promise he showed at Sporting
Phillips - English is about the only thing going for him, and even then, he's a yorkshireman.

Now sometimes those signings can work. Kovacic was logical given the price and what we needed. Doku gives us a plan B and something a bit more dynamic. But do you then follow that up with someone raw like Savio or do you go and buy someone who has delivered already on the biggest stage?

It just feels like we've made too many punts on players, whilst letting ones go through a lack of game time who would be performing much better for us.
