Beginning The 2025 Rebuild of City

You genuinely think the club post treble has been run well? The poor recruitment, rising prices and alienation of local fans sure seems great to me.
In your post you actually said the club haven’t been getting it right for the last few years - during which time we’ve won the treble; the world club & super cup & finished last year with an unprecedented 4 in a row. All teams have a dip & surely you didn’t EXPECT - as opposed to secretly hoped - to win a 5th on the bounce.
Transition & refresh due yes - but give the club “experts” as you call them - some credit.

1 - Should Pep be in charge of the rebuild? Pep is not in charge of recruitment, never has been, the DoF is. Pep has an input and will continue to have it.
2 - Which players should be moved on in 2025? Question is irrelevant, the question is who can we move on. We should move on old guard like walker etc and players who aren't good enough like Grealish etc But they are on big contracts, they won't be easy to get rid of so we will probably see the depsrture of players that arent top of the list to replace. We'll have to rely on releasing players once contracts end, we won't be getting fees for anybody we want rid of but the youngsters.
3 - Which players should be offered new contracts? Haaland, rodri, foden and Dias all have contracts until 2027, they'll be the priority. Ake, akanji, kovacic and grealish also have contracts until then. Grealish won't get one, kovacic unlikely to get one. ake and Akanji woukd be keepers right now but that might change so unlikely to get offered extensions anytime soon. they'll all be 32+ when their contracts run out so they'll have to wait and earn any extensions.
3b - What players should we be targetting? Criteria should be Under 25, bags of pace and energy, best in the business. They'll be replacing legends, these next signings have to be their replacements so good isn't good enough, they have to be elite otherwise we lose our favorites tag and we have a squad that's arguably not the best in the league anymore.
4 - Who is making the decisions for the rebuild, i.e. Txiki or Hugo Viana. You'd expect Txiki to have things lined up for both jan and the summer already you can't hang around waiting for Viana, he'll of course be involved and aware but he's got his own job until the summer, it's all txiki until then.
5 - How will the 115 PL charges decision and other outside influences reflect on the rebuild. Do we wait until after the decision of the independent commission? They never have and will not have any impact. we don't put things on hold waiting for the outcome of something we're insistent we are innocent of.
6 - what sort of figures do we realistically have to spend on a rebuild? Impossible to quantify. We might have the next Alvarez lined up to fill gaps in our squad or we might have to pay a premium. Money shouldn't be a major factor, the only remit should be, sign the best. we are sitting on 2 years of profit, we'll see record revenue this year, especially with the club world cup boost, we could quite easily spend 400 million in one window and have no concerns. It will only hurt what we can spend in the following years. Spend what it takes.

I was referring to the board rather than the players and coaching. I put that the achievements largely down to Pep and the players. In my opinion the dip could have been avoided with better recruitment, even Txiki himself has said his work post treble hasn't been good. The lack of back ups for certain players and allowing the midfield to age without finding heirs has been happening for a couple of years now and that is the fault of the board. I am not saying the board have never got anything right, just that in the last couple of years there has been a decline in what they have got right and it's costing us now.

I forgot to add Grealish to my 'not good enough' list and he'd be out this summer.

He's not good enough to be a wide player and has to play central to have any type of career at City. He's basically got this season to show he's a good player but everything I've ever seen off him is pretty average at best. I've never understood why we paid £100m for him to be honest.

I don't think it is about which player to keep or sell.

It is about who to take charge of the rebuild.

Pep or a new boss?

If it is a new manager it might be total different outcome for some players.

In an ideal world I would say Pep.

But given the recent results and the way he handled himself during the poor run I think that it is time for him to take a short break.

I think that it is the time to shop for a new manager and start to draw the blueprint with him and get him in as soon as the season ends. If he can join earlier then we should have him join mid season. We won't get any trophies this season. The soon the rebuild start the better.

Pep will oversee a squad revamp if he wants to but he knows he has to say good bye to a number of players over the summer that have served him well , the longer we linger with what we have the quicker Pep will be out the door.

Its very obvious that father time , chronic almost like injuries to a number of players and a lack of speed, strength and mental fortitude has meant this squad has more than run its race.

Its not just the last eleven results as bad as they have been and this will continue with this squad for the remainder of the season and the fact we are not competitive in Europe now its much more than that and we need an overhaul and the sooner the better.

It will take some time but we will be a force again.

Pep needs to make the decisions right now otherwise someone else should step in in January.

Lose after lose and he just hanged the wingers the younger ones and bit part players out to dry instead of addressing the core issue - the aging big names over 33.

How Eddie got back the no 1 role was beyond belief.

The unfair treatment towards McAtee is crime. Josko made a shit pass to him in a position McAtee could never control the ball and Pep just gave McAtee a death sentence so he could play Gundo every minute.

If Pep does not want to change and he handles the rebuild I am afraid of him forcing valuable players like McAtee out and keeping the likes of Gundo for ever.

Deep in his mind he must know it well. But he just wants to show his authority.

Great post my friend.

I think Pep isn't the long term future of the club sadly. I will be surprised if he is still here in 2 years to be honest. If his hearts in it, let him build for the next guy.

The last thing the next manager wants is to get his hands tied by Pep's legacy. The next manager should start the rebuild. He will need one or two veterans to keep the dressing room together. Let him pick the players and decide who to keep.

Pep will be forever remembered as greatest coach in the club history.

But the next manager deserves every right to build the squad himself independently, not influenced by his predecessor.

Otherwise I doubt City can hire any top tier coach. No good coach wants to work on a pile left by his predecessor - no matter how wonderful it was.

This would sort us right out.

LB Kerkez
RB Frimpong
CB Branthwaite or Van der Ven
CM Rejinders
CM Baleba
LW Gordon

Baleba is going to be absolutely unbelievable.

Lot of money yes but all young and we’d get years out of them.

Get Bobb back at it.

Proper rebuild.
