Being Priced Out - West Ham

for the past 3 seasons I've attended the majority of City games home away and in Europe, but after looking at my bank balance and the price of tickets this season, I think I'm finally being priced out.

In the past 3 years I've been given a promotion at work, I still live at home and the only things I really spend a lot of money on is saving up for a mortgage and City. But so far this season I've spent £200+ taking my girlfriend, her brother and his friend to Wembley, Over £600 on a season card, around £400 going to Munich.

Then you look at individual ticket prices:
Newcastle cost me around £50
Arsenal away £64 - later reduced by City to £32. - didn't go out of principle.
Hull away - £50
Villa away cost me about £50
And now West Ham coming up would cost me a minimum of around £80 and that's if I drive myself and cant have a beer.
Then you throw in the couple of home cup games which cost about another £50......

All this, as well as other things like filling up petrol, saving up for Christmas, etc... I don't know how some of you do it, especially those of you who have a family and a mortgage to pay!

I still want to go to games, but I can't justify paying that much to go to a horrible part of London and watch a rubbish team when I can sit in the pub and watch it on tele. I really think in 10/15 years travelling to watch your team will be a thing of the past. Surely something BIG has to be done soon to prevent this from happening.

(And if this is the cost of success, it makes everything about being a football fan bittersweet).

Whilst it's a pisser and I totally agree with you, if the allocations keep selling out (as they are doing) nobody will give a shit.

Expect Hull to be £55 next year and West Ham £60. They will try whatever they can if they think they can get away with it.

Sometimes you just have to give it up. I gave up aways years ago as family came along and priorities change.

There will always be someone willing to take your place. There always is.

West Ham should have learned their lesson last year when they had to more or less give tickets away in the end to Community Groups for £5.

Instead they put the price up further, and with it being at 12.45pm in bad location to get to with few redeeming features I'm certainly not going.

The problem is city there are plenty of fans buying and selling on, and whilst this has always been evident at London games it is now far worse. Once I saw a 'fan' order a load of food being very picky, asks for the bill and tries to pay on card, yet still had sufficient loyalty points.

Whilst ticket prices are a joke, I can only have so much sympathy for fans such as yourself.

I wish I could pick and choose which away games to go to. I'll get to 2 this season probably, 3 if I'm lucky.

Nothing personal, and perhaps some might think this is a selfish viewpoint, but we all want that bit extra and in my case that would be to be in your position of having the opportunity to go to so many.

Thats just life mate

There is always someone better/worse off than you regardless of what position you are in

Exactly, and for as much as I might complain that I can't go to many aways, I am fortunate enough to go to every home game, something that some people would love to be able to do. A grey area, is match tickets.

When the fixtures came out I decided to give arsenal and West Ham a swerve this year as they were next to CL fixtures and I was hoping for a decent away draw

But when it was CSKA again I thought I'd spend the money on the West Ham trip instead
Then on Saturday I was reminded that it was the last time we'd be at Upton Park so I'm glad I did now.

Ended up going to Arsenal as they halved the tickets to a more reasonable price.

If they were cheaper you could go to more. 5 years ago they were a lot cheaper in general and 3 more local sides.

If I had no intention of going to West Ham I would still think the hight price is out of order, and not say I have no sympathy because I don't go to away games in the main.

Same position as me mate. I could go to the odd away if I fancied it but I prefer other finer things in life as well as City :)
