Being Priced Out - West Ham

Treating my youngest lad to this, with an overnight stay thrown in!

It's working out a dear do, with the train fare, but wanted to make sure of this one, as it's the last time at Upton Park.

Will have to work out a new pub crawl for next season at the Olympic Stadium!

Can understand people not being able to stretch to this one though, with all the cup games coming thick and fast.

been to west ham so I will wait till next year for the new ground and it SHOULD BE CHEAPER as its a 50k ground

I'm 51 years old, married with no mortgage but I still need to manage my money. That's what it is all about. Unless you are extremely wealthy, you will always have to make choices over what your money is spent on. Watching City with friends and family is an important part of my life. I have and will always make choices as to which games I attend. That is all home games and around 6/8 away games. I can afford more, but to continue doing just that I don't do Europe away or London games. Choices and money management fellas. Do without something such as fags, booze, gambling, that 5th pair of trainers, the weekend binge. It's amazing how you can save a little money when you don't spend it on shite.....!

That's fair enough. I didn't mean to sound snobby or anything in my post... I just see myself as someone who earns a decent amount of money and has basically no living costs or responsibilities - If I'm struggling to justify £55 for a 12:45 KO over 300 miles away, then what other type of person do they expect to go? Because in 10 years time when I have kids a house and so on, how would I be able to afford it then?

I've got kids, mortgage and plenty of debt! I'm going only because I promised one of my lads I would take him to West Ham before the season started. I had this forlorn hope that West Ham might have done something with the prices due to kick off time etc. I really can't afford it. £87 for the 2 tickets with train, tube and light refreshments on top - it's going to be a very expensive day. It will probably be my only league away other than boxing day this season and I, like many others, used to do every game home and away in the not too distant past. It's depressing that it has come to this.

Sorry to hear that mate!
Getting the train to London just isn't an option for me anymore. £80 + £10 for the tube is just ridiculous.
Depending on where you're based it might be worth calling round supporters clubs and seeing if they have any coaches going - or even directly to the club, they'll definitely have one.

Train is already booked as advance price wasn't too bad when booked. My wife hates the amount of money following City takes out of our ever diminishing pot!

Done loads of aways these last few years but this season I've had enough of paying £50 and not done one yet.

West Ham is the first one I'll be doing as it's a good away day, last game at that ground for us etc.
I actually don't enjoy it as much anymore - sometimes I prefer to watch the aways down the pub with my mates, makes a nice change.

Not missed a euro away since Villareal but not doing any this side of xmas

So we shouldnt worry about the price of tickets as long as we can afford them?

I'm alright Jack.

Excellent. Another poster who assumes he knows the level of everyone's disposable (if indeed there is any) income and what they spend it on. Just what what we needed.

I have been going home and away for the last 7 years since leaving education and having a full time job.

Im at 100% for this season however found myself priced out of both West Ham and QPR.

I shall be kicking back watching on the sofa with a couple of cans.

QPR tickets not out yet, are they?

No, but the prices are known already and they are £55 mainly or £50 wings.

It aint about money management as SBB suggests, I won't go to these as I don't like feeling being ripped off.

Think Squirtyflower has a good point about capping it at £30 for away fans...

My mate whose a Bolton fan was getting charged £40 to go to Leeds away which is ridiculous to watch Championship football.

Something really needs to be done but the reality is if some person can't afford it another person will be willing to take the ticket unfortunately.

Unbelievable how Hull can be £35 in March and rise to £50 by September.
