Rubbish, Bellamy quite clearly stated he would rather stay in the reserves and take his wage than take a pay cut so that he could continue to fund his Craig Bellamy Foundation in Sierra Leone.

If thats the case then that's exactly what he would have done ala Wayne Bridge because unless he was in breach of his contract it would have been more difficult to sack him without paying out more money.

No but he will have had a payout from city and no doubt he will still be on a handsome wage at liverpool

Did he go for free or did we get money?

Only the press have stipulated we were prepared to let him go for no transfer fee but its been reported as undisclosed.

In property sales undisclosed usually means the vendor got a lot less than they wanted or were told by the agent they would get and I doubt its much different in football circles.

Its fair to say Liverpool held the whip hand in this deal along with the wages they were willing to offer him.

The club wanted him out , Liverpool wanted him in , he knew he wasn't going to get any more first team action so in the end it was an easy deal.

I doubt we got a cracker for him unlike the vast majority of premier league players regardless of age who still have a year to run on their contract.

When you are no longer required and told you cannot train with the first team squad even when you have possibly contributed to this decision being made you can either stick it up the managers kyber and do a Danny Mills and quite likely what the likes of Wayne Bridge is doing or you can leave the club even though both parties know it could have been handled much better.

Bellamy chose the latter option when he could have easliy taken a stress free ride in his twilight season.

My point was that players like Bridge,Lescott,Bellamy,Ade,Given etc. were better than what we had previously, and were unlikely to have signed before the takeover. They were signed to take us up a notch,quickly....therefore,they were always going to be enticed by money, and "difficult" to move on.

You can argue about whether or not they "under performed" under Hughes all day...but I don't think you can argue that they were better than what we had.
Whatever,it worked.

Did it?
We'll disregard last season's 3rd place finish and FA Cup win.
Which, of the players quoted, seriously contributed to us finishing 5th the season before?
IMO, only Given, he was a top buy

So we didnt give him the £4 million pay off he wanted then
Im sure its easy to take a pay cut when you get a lump sum of hush money
bell would not have left without a big pay
off from city

Re: Bellamy takes 50 per cent pay cut

...I just feel sorry for those poor little kids at his chirridy in sierra leone - with only a paltry 40k per week to survive on he will drop them like the proverbial hot potato....(if only they could appreciate the analogy)

Re: Bellamy takes 50 per cent pay cut

i can't believe those 13 kids he's looking after will have to try and survive on 45k a week now. disgusting behaviour by city, but bellamy really should have a look at the nursery fee's in africa, they sound even more expensive than over here

Re: Bellamy takes 50 per cent pay cut

A report yesterday in the Times/Independent said it would be 90K a week we were apparently paying £95k

This guy is a mercenary, just because he plays with that never say die attitude doesn't mean he would fight for his place. Look at all the teams he's played for...
Hes the welsh tevez.

But the Sun and the Mirror both said he was the highest paid player in England earning a staggering £200k per week and the EDS were contemplating strike action as they wanted parity

You cannot imagine a 32 year old who already left the club albeit under different management in somewhat dubious circumstances after under performing by most peoples measure including the vast majority of their fans on a two year deal second time around would be paid those kind of wages.

Even Liverpool arn't that daft and most likely cannot afford to make him one of the highest paid if not highest paid players at the club.

Even if Liverpool could afford them there is no way they would fork out that kind of money especially when they know we will be asking nothing in terms of a fee and he is on his last contract in the top tier and has a dodgy knee to boot.

Exactly. Utter bollocks, no doubt. The press have shown time and time again that they have absolutely no idea about wages, contracts etc. This smacks, I'm afraid, of an obvious and lamentable attempt to try and make out that "King" Kenny has pulled off some kind of masterstroke and somehow got one over on City.

Given the amount of cash they've been throwing around over the past six months (all a necessary part of Kenny's "Revolution", of course, rather than our "ruining football" spree), it seems pretty clear that they could afford to match Bellamy's wages, especially if they're not paying a tranfer fee.

Whatever he's on,whatever he's done or not...I thought he was a good signing and never let us down when he played.

The club are gradually moving the players on like Bellamy who got us to "the next level." It was always going to happen, and there would always be some "financial fallout" due to the nature of
the speed of development at City.

I for one wish him well.

My sentiments exactly. Did well for us I thought. Had a bit of baggage in terms of his personality clashes but good luck to him.

Re: Bellamy takes 50 per cent pay cut

Bollocks noone goes on a FREE and then gets a massive pay cut? Why? Because the clubs can put forward what they were going to pay for the transfer towards the salary.

Bellamy WAS/IS a mercenary and all this hyping him like he was the Welsh Jesus has to stop. He had one "decent" season where Robinho did better was just because Bellamy showed more effort he gets hailed as the saviour.

Fuck him glad he is gone and he will flop at Liverpool and probably cause problems there too. He can now shake twitchers hand all he wants and in 100 times below Adebayor in my standing who I believe was harshly treated for no reason. Bellamy on the other hand is a ****.

Its not because of his on field efforts for us he fell out of favour and that's a pity.

Oh god how will he survive, i mean i bet half of his City wage went to Africa every week, lol

60% actually.

More bollocks if he sent 60% of his wages to Africa they would be living in mansions. The power of the £ on the continent is so great that a family can live on £10 a week. So what Bellamy is propping up the whole country by himself? More hype to just give this twat underserved credit. Sure he sends a few thousand which is more than others do but no way does he send 60%.

I Agree.

In fact, just watched his video on the LFC website : <a class="postlink" href="http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/video/News-and-Interviews/11-12/Bellamy-on-his--28040.php3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/video/News-an ... 28040.php3</a>

For someone who's VERY happy to have signed for Liverpool, he doesn't half NOT smile a lot.

Not like Samir's first interview :-)!!!!!
