Ben Chilwell

Would anyone take a cut-price Cucurella? Chilwell nailed down to a new deal. Chelsea will need to sell assets to balance the books for not getting in Europe.

We could get him for what we originally wanted to pay Brighton (£30m) or so. Surely we must have rated him. In our system he could be much better or is it a no go after his terrible season.

Personally I’m happy with Ake but if we wanted another option in case of an injury - I suppose the plan for next season supposing we stick to this system is probably for Gvardiol and Ake in that hybrid role.
He looks fucking terrible mate,I genuinely think we'd be better off sticking with Gomez.

How does Chelsea keep getting players to sign and resign? It is genuinely starting to mystify me. Are they throwing crazy wages at them that players won’t get elsewhere?

They had players sign 8.5 year contracts in the winter and now players like chillwell are resigning. They’re completely in shambles with no known leadership in sight and an idiotic owner smashing buttons in his keyboard with no apparent strategy. I don’t get it. What’s the appeal

Why wouldn't Chillwell extend his contract? He's their first choice LB.

Well we literally don’t play with any. I don’t see the point in buying a left back that would expect to play most games when we play 3-2-2-3. No point. Virtually our whole defence needs to either be able to play centre back or in the centre of midfield and Chilwell can do neither. So he isn’t needed.

the reason we're playing 3-2-2-3 is because we have no decent left backs though so it's a chicken and egg thing

I’m not so sure about that tbh. Box midfields seems to be the way possession-based coaches are moving, it feels more like a natural evolution of the game. Pretty sure Xavi plays the exact same shape at Barca. De Zerbi uses boxes but in a slightly different way at Brighton. I think Pep would be playing this way regardless. Kyle Walker has been arguably the best right back in PL history yet even he is sidelined due to the system change. I think this is the way Pep wants to go and we’ll still have this shape next season in my opinion.
