Only 3 games played, we must give him at least 2-3 months. On the other hand Delph + Sane were immense.

he will come good as someone's said at Monaco he was great at 1on1s that's why pep wanted him.hes had a bad injury just needs time and a pep talk lol.

Bit of an urban myth. He's totally different to Sane. Sane makes weaving runs and can get behind a defense. Mendy is generally about wide positioning and bullet-like crosses.
Both players are speedy, left-side attackers. I agree that their skill sets are different - the problem is that they occupy the same space on offense.

Perhaps Sane can be effective driving forward from a more central position (or perhaps Mendy can or both can) - but I haven't seen enough indication of that - but if Sane (or Mendy or both) can attack more centrally, then yes, both Mendy and Sane can play at the same time.

As-is though, both players are very effective wide left, not-so-much centrally. Which is why they don't fit in the playing squad at the same time.

I'm absolutely baffled by this thread. (take the condescending tone as tongue in cheek) You guys are aware of a term called totality right? To break it down there's two sides. A defensive side and an offensive side. Equally important, right? Absolutely not and it's not even close but I'll spare you the lengthy reasoning behind that but just trust me on that one. I'll give you two options here and you tell me who you'd take. Player 1 is rated a 7 defensively and a 2 offensively. Player 2 is a 4 defensively but a 9 offensively. It's simple math for one thing. Secondly as I've pointed out above offensive contribution is massively more valuable than defensive contribution and we have arguably the best attacking fullback in world football....

Obviously 1 is Delph and 2 is Mendy. You guys are expecting Mendy to be the perfect player and I'm sorry that's just not possible. This game is about scoring goals and he'll probably create more chances than other LB in any of the big leagues and probably be a large margin. We'll be hiding him often in a 3-5-2 this year anyway so wake up.

I know the assists will say otherwise but the team gains so much more when he plays like he did the last 20 minutes of that game. That is what made the team so devastating with delph last season, the ability to maintain attacks, retain possession and control the game. Maybe pep told him but outside of one time he pretty much stopped overlapping towards the last 30 minutes of that game and was just there to offer cut-back support. If he plays like that for most of the season(I say most because there will be a couple of games those overlapping runs will be needed against) the team will win much more comfortably and won't look like being countered everytime they lose it like in the first half

He is going to cost us massively in a lot of games this season. Going forward he is fantastic but defensively he is absolutely laughable, as he was for the goal today & against Wolves.

Think I agree. Can see dippers especially tearing us apart down the left if he defends as he has last two games.

Mendy I thought was stuck where he was because there was no one else in the center of defense. I was blaming Kyle for being missing.

But Mendy was at fault imo for being very static for long periods. I think he can do a lot better. But so could quite a few in our last few games.

I know it sounds daft but I don’t think he can play with a winger (442/433).
I think for him to be as effective as he can be he has to be the winger/wing back i.e. Huddersfield
