Easy said:
Don’t see Zin starting, too big of a game for him given how much he’ll have to defend exposing his biggest weakness. If not Mendy then Danilo or Laporte again.

Maybe not. Just saying using an inverted fullback to help with possession actually favors Zee over Mendy or Danilo. Neither one is half the possession player Zee is.

Also Mendy and Danilo are not particularly great defenders. So they'll only be marginally better ( and thus will not be good enough if an in form Pool front line shows up.

Hence why our best defense is possession. Which bin my mind favors Zee over anyone else.
 
Mendy can defend very well imo. His biggest problem is his lack of tracking back to defend, but I’m sure pep will put him out there making it clear that he has to focus on defending against the scousers.
 
My biggest concern is that i feel Mendy needs a couple of games to get up to speed,unfortunately,he then seemingly goes and gets another injury.....Hoping we can get and keep the lad fit as he's a potent weapon when firing.

Yeah, the notion that he is a bad defender is a bit faulty. More like a decent defender who is out of position as a function of tactics more often than not.

Personally, if he plays, I'd rather he concentrates on his attacking, crossing and high press rather than sitting back to defend.
 
Would prefer Zinchenko against the Dippers because he is better defensively , but i wouldnt be over concerned if our £50m left back and one of the best attacking full backs in europe started the game , and i am not too sure Klopp would be happy witnessing Mendy smashing in crosses for Aguero and others too take advantage of , maybe a little perspective is required Mendy is a brilliant player and can match Salah for pace and would give their superstar fullback Terence Trent Darby something to think about
 
Some of the comments in the match thread were ridiculous. He's been injured the last few weeks, clearly not match fit, clearly wasn't even up to full speed after his injury last season. But he did his job. Didn't go miles upfield all game, he sat back and did his defending. Some of his passing was sloppy but again he is lacking match sharpness.
