MOTD Jenas highlighted how well Sterling Silva ,and Mendy played together on the left flank creating space ,there were 3 or 4 examples
It is a huge thing this. Something Mendy and Walker are both very good at.

Up until recently this season there were games when it was Zinchenko-Gundogan-Sterling and to be honest I thought Sterling was starting to look at bit stale on the left and he had a few poor games.

Sterling and Zinchenko were dropped for Watford, Mendy and Bernardo came in on the left and while Mendy was very rusty on the ball, he did slot of good work off the ball and Bernardo got a hattrick that day.

Now it’s Mendy-Silva-Sterling and Sterling is getting more space to play in and is looking like his old self again now, playing very well in both games this week.

But a lot of praise has to go to Mendy in this. He is still very rusty on the ball, don’t forget he has played just 26 games for the club in two and a quarter years! But his movement and runs are providing Sterling with the space and time that Walker gives his right wingers.

Pleased that he’s looking a bit more like his old self now he’s had a run of games. He seems to have lost a yard though and he looks like he’s carrying a bit but maybe those issues will resolve themselves the more games he gets under his belt. I thought he looked a bit leggy in general yesterday and it was alarming to see grealish who’s no athlete leaving him for dead. Maybe he’s not quite ready for 2 games in 3 days which is understandable.

On the ball his quality is evident but on occasion he seems to suffer from a disease that a lot of left backs have - the cross delivered with such ridiculous power that nobody has a chance of doing anything with it. First noticed it with Hinchy - left backs just seem to enjoy kicking the ball as hard as they possibly can !

If you needed to show someone a visual for the word ‘insanity’, I’d show them Kolarov belting crosses at the first man over and and over and over again as hard as he can.

I think he has done ok. Not amazingly well but not bad for someone who has been out so long. Going to really judge him after a few more months.

I'm happy for him to get more time, but he seems to have massively regressed - especially in his delivery from out wide, which always his bread and butter IMO.

Would really rather prefer Angelino and this stage though.

How is he going to get any sharper if your going to bench him for Angelino?

Not how it works - you shouldn't and don't get game after game to find your form at this level when you've got a quality back up waiting in the wings. Have to come and hit the ground running more or less.

Ben does not have long to get this right IMO.

The key to Mendy's amazing crosses are the fact they're timed perfectly and hit at a lot of pace, especially the ones along the ground.

So it's not surprising that it'll take a few weeks/months to re-calibrate. You can see him getting the pace wrong a bit, but I will say he's put in some incredible aerial crosses that if our strikers weren't midgets would have been guaranteed goals.

Also a lot of the time theres only one or two of our players to hit in a packed box so it doesn't make too much sense to ping it in. he's shown awareness with some of his cut backs
