Benjamin Mendy (Back In Training)

posted a couple of mini intagram vids today, got a trainer from the club over with him and he is doing plenty of fitness training.

The steps he's doing are very quick and sharp but minimal twisting. I can see why he thinks he'll be back training in the next 4 weeks..

Ibrahimovic was boasting how he had come back ahead of schedule but rushed it too early and had problems.

Mendy needs to be patient and make sure he is fully healed, for the sake of the rest of his career.

This is his second ACL injury.

Totally agree. Rose is the best example I can think of. Setback meant surgery and 9 months off. He came back in good time and STILL had a setback.

Think he should right this season off , it's too much of a risk just to play the last few matches, slow & steady fitness build up until August ko.

Big Conk is about 13 years older, makes a huge difference.

We will see? I like Mendy but there's no guarantee he's not got a fundamental weakness for this type of injury, it's the second one he's had in a relatively short career.

I think we need a top quality back up to give rest, and in case we get any future reoccurrence.

It's not the second one really, the first was to the other knee. It was also from a high impact stupid tackle, not something innocuous. By the way, we have a top quality back up in Delph.

I'm confident time will show we do.

If we could get Delph back fit, I wouldn’t mind seeing Zinchenko given a go in his preferred midfield role, (alongside KDB in Merlin’s absence) for his energy & drive, rather than Gundogan, who, for me, has begun to struggle a bit (fitness wise) lately.
Maybe the physical nature of the English game, his injury record over the last couple of years, and the resultant lack of fitness/game time is finally beginning to take its toll

I actually think Gundogan has gotten significantly better. And Zee is the LB who I think will prove superior.

Benjamin Mendy has stepped up his recovery from knee ligament damage.

The French international is set to resume full training next month - but is already moving his knee with almost complete freedom. [MEN]

Some players are more predisposed to injury than others. (Delph seems a bit that way inclined).

Over the past 3 seasons Mendy has missed 26%, 34% and 84% of league games though injury or suspension. His earlier ACL injury was not as severe, (and did not receive surgery), but a ruptured ACL injury is one of the worse an athlete can get. The potential weakness when turning, can create mental confidence/performance issues, even when the medical team give the "all clear" to play.

I want us to have top quality cover. I think Delph and Zinchenko have played well, particularly playing out of position, but IMO we are weaker with those options than with Walker on the RHS or a fully fit Mendy on the LHS. Maybe @Dax777 is right and Zinchenko will provide a future solution? Time will tell.

Yes, Mendy had an ACL injury and had surgery last October, Jesus had an MCL injury that was less severe and didn't require surgery.

Apparently Mendy's injury was not a complete rupture of his ACL unlike Gundogon, only a partial tear so should have much quicker recovery can't be too bad if he's just flown to America rather than further rehab, sure I read he's going light running and ball work airheads.
